Plants vs Zombies 3 has had a long journey of over six years now, and finally, it might end up getting a global launch. The tower defense strategy title from Electronic Arts and PopCap Games has officially brought Plants vs Zombies 3: Evolved back into early access, starting with a rollout in Ireland and the Philippines.
Plants vs Zombies 3: Evolved returns following multiple reworks since 2020
At its core, PvZ 3: Evolved sticks to the familiar lane-based tower defense gameplay, while introducing new mechanics. The story once again revolves around Dr. Zomboss causing trouble, this time involving mysterious meteorite of Crazy Dave tied to the merging system.
This new early access build confirms that there have been a few reworks, with the focus more on longer levels, more meaningful battles, and a stronger emphasis on mastering individual plants. Features like avatars have been removed, and the lawn-based defense gameplay like the original titles.
The journey for Plants vs Zombies 3 has been anything but smooth. The game first appeared in soft launch back in 2020, only to be pulled shortly after for major changes. It returned again in 2021 before disappearing for three years.
In January 2024, the game entered early access in select regions, but was later removed from stores in October 2024 as EA planned a significant overhaul. Throughout 2025, reports suggested new directions for the game, including art style changes, regional testing in China, and even a separate revival of the franchise with Plants vs Zombies Reloaded.
If you are interested in trying out the title, you can get the game on Android and iOS via the Google Play Store and App Store, respectively, if you are from Ireland or the Philippines. In the coming months, more regions are confirmed to be added before a full global launch later this year.
