The annual Roblox Developers Conference (RDC) for the year 2024 had an exciting rush of announcements coming in, and for Roblox creators, there is some amazing news. One of the biggest announcements was the introduction of premium titles, giving developers the chance to earn up to 70% of the revenue from their games on Roblox. Alongside arrives the Creator Affiliate Program for Roblox, the details of which I will share in detail in this space.

Roblox takes a significant step to boost the revenue of its developers

With the introduction of premium games on its platform, Roblox is offering developers a significant boost in revenue sharing. Announced at the 10th annual Roblox Developers Conference in San Francisco, CEO David Baszucki revealed that developers will keep between 50% to 70% of the revenue from their games when paid with real-world currency.

Coming to the detailed breakdown, titles priced at $9.99, $29.99, and $49.99 will give developers a revenue share of 50%, 60%, and 70%, respectively. Simply put, the bigger the pricing, the higher the share. This is a major and a very necessary increase from the estimated 30% the developers currently earn from in-app purchases made using Roblox’s in-game currency, Robux.

The earnings mentioned above apply when purchases are made in real currency on desktop platforms. The feature of the premium titles is expected to launch on PC later this year, with plans to expand the feature to other platforms in the future.

In addition, within the next few months, Roblox will roll out a new tool to help developers fine-tune the pricing of their in-experience content. Called Price Optimization, this tool runs tests to find the best pricing strategy that appeals to players, while planning to experiment with including regional pricing recommendations.

More e-commerce partnerships are planned by Roblox to boost economics

Alongside the premium games, Roblox is introducing a Creator Affiliate Program. Now, this space allows creators to earn up to 50% of Robux spending from new users they bring to the platform. Earnings are capped at $100 per user based on their first six months of purchases. The test runs until the end of 2024 and by mid-2025 plans to expand to all eligible creators. You can apply for the program here.

Additionally, the company is rolling out new features. A Party Mode is coming, which will let up to six friends more easily play their favorite games together. On the economics side, there are plans to integrate with various e-commerce platforms, with the first partnership with Shopify being confirmed to sell real-world items through Roblox experiences.
