The popular planet terraforming simulation game TerraGenesis: Space Settlers, developed by Tilting Point and downloaded over 28 million times, won the Participant Choice Award at Green Game Jam 2022, which was chosen by the participating studios, just before the release of its sequel TerraGenesis: Operation Landfall on iOS and Android on July 26, 2022.
TerraGenesis: Space Settlers to provide players a permanent Tree-derboard
Terragenesis from Tilting Point expanded on its already-existing tree planting feature by providing players with a permanent Tree-derboard (Leaderboard) after being chosen by the participating studios. Combining this with a short-lived event focused on repairing the globe after a climate catastrophe highlighted how harm to our planet also harms our food sources.
Green Game Jam 2022 witnessed an increase in the number of entries this year
The UN-facilitated Playing for the Planet Alliance’s third annual Green Game Jam has drawn 42 studio submissions, up from 27 in 2021 and 11 in the competition’s debut year of 2020. The Playing for the Planet Alliance’s Green Gaming Jam is a project with support from the UN Environment Programme and 42 top-tier participating game studios.
Through the Green Game Jam 2022, game developers can provide players the tools they need to use the games they already know and love to make a difference in the world. With the intention of influencing one million players’ dietary decisions and encouraging the planting and preservation of one million trees, this year’s awards were centered on the themes of food and forests.
