- PUBG Mobile removes “Hand of the Almighty” card item after backlash.
- Muslim players called the item name disrespectful to Islamic beliefs.
- Similar religious controversy had also happened during PUBG's Jungle mode a few years ago.
PUBG Mobile has officially apologized and removed a recently added in-game item following backlash from parts of its Muslim player community. The controversy was tied to a card item called “Hand of the Almighty,” which arrived with the game’s v4.4 update.
After criticism spread online, PUBG Mobile released an official statement saying it was sorry and “deeply regrets the hurt and anguish” caused by the item and confirmed that it had been removed immediately from the game.
PUBG Mobile apologized and promised stricter content review processes
The discussion mainly came from Muslim players who felt the wording crossed a sensitive religious line. Many argued that using terms associated with divine attributes in an entertainment product felt disrespectful to Islamic beliefs and the sacred attributes of Allah.
One player commented that the concern was not meant to attack the game, but to respectfully ask Tencent Games and PUBG Mobile to reconsider the naming. The message mentioned that faith is sacred for Muslims and requested either the removal or renaming of the item out of respect for religious sentiments.
Of course, not everyone agreed with the criticism either. Some Muslim players online argued that “Almighty” itself is a broader English term meaning “God” and not directly exclusive to Islamic usage.
A few even felt removing the item was unnecessary and warned that giving in too quickly could open the door to future controversies over smaller issues. Still, PUBG Mobile ultimately decided to remove the item entirely rather than rename it, which was the right action at the time before things could escalate further.
Interestingly, this is not the first time PUBG Mobile has faced religious sensitivity discussions in the Middle East region. Back in 2020, the game also issued apologies during controversy surrounding the Mysterious Jungle mode, particularly after criticism from players in countries like Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.
Religious sensitivity in global games is always a difficult balance
When it comes to religion, there is honestly no denying that people are very sensitive about it. No matter what the developers originally intended, once players feel something touches their beliefs in the wrong way, reactions are bound to happen.
Even if an item or feature was added with no bad intentions at all, that does not automatically mean everyone will see it the same way. For many players, faith is something deeply personal, so they naturally react strongly when they feel it is being referenced incorrectly.
That is exactly what seems to have happened here. Some players saw the item name as harmless fantasy wording, while others genuinely felt uncomfortable with it. And with a game this massive, both reactions were always going to exist side by side.
It is honestly impossible for developers to perfectly satisfy every audience at all times, but once a controversy reaches this level, companies usually prefer removing the content entirely rather than letting the situation grow bigger. In this case, too, PUBG Mobile clearly decided it was better to apologize quickly and move on from the issue.
