KONAMI’s eFootball had a banger of a new season start with the v4.0.0 update, which was followed by the v4.1.0 update, which was decent enough as well. Within these updates, something that has stayed constant is the two packs that you can purchase with coins, the Starter Pack featuring Messi and Neymar. After I reviewed those two, I also got my hands on another two Double Booster cards in the shop, David Villa and Pep Guardiola. This was something very attractive for me and hence paid for it. After trying them out in the game, I’ll share if the Starter Set packs are worth going for in eFootball 2025 with this review.
eFootball 2025 Starter Set Packs review
Starter Set 1: Pep Guardiola
- Price: $0.99 (Regionwise changes possible)
- What’s included: Pep Guardiola Double Booster Epic Card + 50 eFootball Coins
In the game, he plays as an Orchestrator DMF, but his real strength lies in his ability to control the flow of the game. Passing is world-class. His low pass and lofted pass stats are both in the high 90s, making him perfect for those long through balls or quick passes that set up attacks. Through Passing and Weighted Pass skills are a boon for someone who dictates plays.
But Guardiola isn’t just about passing. His defensive stats are also impressive, and with the auto build, he might not get all his stats in the 90s range, but that’s pretty decent enough. After his double boost, he becomes a solid defensive option who can hold his own against even the best attackers in the game, which I got him the Defending booster. Pace didn’t seem to be a concern.
In my matches, Guardiola’s defensive abilities stood out. He made key interceptions, broke up plays, and helped transition defense into attack with pinpoint passes. The physical contact is kind of decent, he doesn’t get himself bullied and can be very flexible on the ball. I felt he was awesome under the Possession Game style, slow and dictating play.
If you loved playing with Busquets, I think Guardiola will impress you too, but with not that ease of ball control for sure. Surprisingly, he doesn’t have familiarity at the CMF position, so if you are lucky enough to get that using Position Booster, I suggest you go for a CMF build, cutting down points on defense a bit and distributing it on other stats.
Starter Set 2: David Villa
- Price: $2.99 (Regionwise changes possible)
- What’s included: David Villa Double Booster Epic Card +Highlight Players + 100 eFootball Coins
Now let me review David Villa first. In-game, yes, we have had a couple of amazing versions of this guy, but this Villa is no less. He’s an absolute beast in front of goal. His finishing stat makes him lethal when he gets chances inside the box. Combine that with his high attacking awareness, and you’ve got a striker who’s always in the right place at the right time.
He also has great kicking power, meaning he can fire off powerful shots. But that’s not all. Villa also has good dribbling skills. With abilities like Double Touch and Marseille Turn, he can dribble past defenders with ease, setting up dangerous shots or passes. And while he doesn’t come with the Rising Shot ability, I suggest making him train that. Once he gets that, Villa becomes an even bigger threat on goal.
Now, what I was fond of amongst all these was the playstyle this man comes with, Dummy Runner. My word, this makes his runs even more lethal. He just picks his spot, sees the right opportunity, and presents himself at the right places at the right time. This is what makes him even more usable, you don’t need to trigger his runs all the time.
From my experience playing with him, he rarely misses. He is not pacy, mind you, so if your strategy lies in lobbing the ball every time through on goal, I prefer not to get him. He worked great in both 1-CF and 2-CF formations. If you’re looking for a reliable striker who can win you games, David Villa is the man.
Other cards that come with this pack are Ivan Perisic, Ollie Watkins, and Ruben Dias. Perisic comes as an all-rounder and has well-rounded stats but felt a little sluggish to my liking. Ollie and Dias can be good backups, and Dias is a great pairing with a tall-Build Up CB like Van Dijk, his aggressive game suited me well.
Should you go for the eFootball 2025 Starter Set Packs
Starter Set 1 features Pep Guardiola, who comes with the Passing Booster. For the price, it’s a solid pickup, especially with the added 50 coins that can help you in future purchases. On the other hand, Starter Set 2, which gives you David Villa, feels like a better deal, especially with the added three players.
Even though they are in different positions, there’s no denying that Villa can be a sure-shot starter for many squads, whereas Guardiola can be a bit of an okayish if in case you are going for a sole DMF. But for a double pivot, he’s an excellent midfielder, with passing being a mettle. But again, both are not end-game cards, they have their tiers high.
So, which pack? There’s not exactly an option here, if you have the cash, go for both. Value for money? Surely Villa as you also get decent options for the wings and a solid CB in Ruben Dias.
But for only $4, you’re getting two iconic players and some decent extras. If you were to buy myClub coins alone or try to get players of this caliber via packs, you’d probably end up spending way more. End of the day, your choice.
