The Game Awards, which toasts the video game industry and celebrates the achievements of developers and esports athletes each year and is usually broadcasted from large event space, took on a new, virtual format this year on account of restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic. One of the revolutions of the year, Among Us managed to bag in two prestigious awards at the Game Awards- The Best Mobile Game along with the Best Multiplayer Game of 2020.
The small game studio with three developers was built two years ago. With no publicity, the game hardly had a few players back then. But that did not stop the developers from working on it further and releasing new updates. Finally the hard work paid off this year when millions of users started playing this game during the coronavirus lockdown. Today Among Us is one of the most popular game among users.
Among Us’ performance in the Game Awards
Mobile gaming, on the whole, saw a rise in 2020. Among Us was the star of this party, a multiplayer game that does not even have voice chat and yet managed to make a mark in the space.
In addition to the two awards, Among Us also managed to make it to the second round in ‘Player’s Voice’ voting. Although it did not manage to win the Player’s voice voting, it managed to beat Call of Duty and Valorant to win the Best Multiplayer award.
Impact of the awards on Among us
Previously, Among Us also bagged the Breakthrough award at the Golden Joy Stick Awards 2020. We are sure these awards will sure help the game grow even further. Innersloth is now a 4 person development team. Previously the developers dropped their idea of releasing a sequel of the game and are now incorporating the ideas into Among Us itself. At the ceremony, Innersloth confirmed that the 4th map in the game called “The Airship” is coming soon.
