- Clash of Clans is bringing back Global Chat as part of the June 2026 update.
- New Groups allow you to create or join chat spaces with up to 800 members.
- Communities expand large Groups into public hubs supporting up to 50,000 players.
For years, one of the most common requests from the Clash of Clans community has been the return of Global Chat. Ever since Supercell removed the feature in 2019, players have continued asking for some way to reconnect with the wider player base without relying on Discord servers, Reddit communities, or external social platforms.
Now, nearly seven years later, Global Chat is finally coming back after being teased last month as part of the mega June 2026 update this 17th. But rather than bringing back the original chat system, Supercell has rebuilt Global Chat from the ground up with moderation tools, reporting systems, and community-focused features.
Exploring the Social Tab in Clash of Clans: Group, Community, and the Town Square
All of these tools will be accessible through a brand-new Social tab, where we can access Clan Chat, Groups, Communities, and Town Square. Notably, players do not need to be in a Clan to use these new social features.
You can create a Group for your clan family, recruitment efforts, strategy discussions, trophy pushing, base building, or any other topic. Groups can be set to public, invite-only, or private, which is quite a nice touch, so that you can restrict the spam from outside.

At launch, Groups can support up to 800 members and include features such as reactions, stickers, player profile sharing, clan links, QR code invitations, and moderation settings. You can view Groups as an expanded and more customizable version of the traditional Clan Chat we had before, which is also a majorly updated one.
Communities are for us, a big audience, and this is for me the best part of this social update. Once a Group reaches 600 members, it can be upgraded into a Community, increasing its capacity to 50,000 members. It does have certain restrictions, though. Communities are always public, have Family-Friendly settings enabled by default, and have messages automatically deleted after 12 hours. Well, not everything can be permanent, does it?
Every player will automatically be placed into Town Square, which serves as a central location for announcements, sneak peeks, live events, and community-wide activities. While not everyone can post messages, you can still react in real time to updates shared by Community Managers, Ambassadors, creators, and special guests.

A nice touch is that Town Square might be having activities, such as community milestones, which may unlock rewards for everyone. All these come with the most needed clan recruitment improvements as well, which was something that was lacking with the loss of global chat.
Here, you can now directly share player profiles, clans, Groups, and Communities through chat. Other players can instantly view those profiles or clans and join if they are interested. Clan leaders, you have a nice feature in hand.
Why this social update is much more “connecting” than the original
Of course, there is a reason Global Chat disappeared in the first place. Moderation challenges, spam, scams, and inappropriate behavior became increasingly difficult to manage at the scale of Clash of Clans. Bringing back the exact same system in 2026 would likely create many of the same problems, because you know, not all players are the same.
The new approach feels like Supercell trying to preserve the social benefits of Global Chat while avoiding the issues that led to its removal. Groups and Communities split is being part of that change, and that’s pretty intelligent to separate them so that you can monitor and moderate players easily.
You can also see where Clash of Clans is heading. Yes, we all know how big an experience as a game it already is, but I can see there’s also this idea of making Clash of Clans feel like an anonymous social platform again, rather than simply a strategy game with clans attached to it.
The original Global Chat connected millions of players, but it was built for a very different era of online gaming, and to a much smaller audience compared to the present. Whether it fully succeeds remains to be seen, but after years of community requests, Clash of Clans is finally getting something many players thought would never return, and that’s exciting.
