With the makers trying to up the game experience by a huge margin, this update arrives with a plethora of new features and changes, including a brand-new pet system, weapon upgrades, and revamped maps. So with plenty to discuss, let me give you a short overview of the standouts from this update that is arriving on September 12th, 2024.

Farlight 84 “Hi, Buddy!” September 2024 expansion update: All new features explained

Buddy System and Buddy Orbs

The core feature of this update is the Buddy System, which introduces pets called Buddies. They are of two types: Common and Archon. Common Buddies are easier to capture and have useful abilities such as teleporting teammates or launching players across the map. Archon Buddies is the rarer one among the two with skills such as manipulating the Safe Zone or summoning a tornado.

To capture and store these creatures, you will be using an in-game item called Buddy Orbs. While playing the game, each of you will start with a reusable orb, while the rest of them can be found throughout the game. The Buddy Orb isn’t limited to capturing Buddies as it can also store up to 6 Buddies or tactical items.

The list of Buddies coming to the game is given below:

ZephyCommonCreates a wind field that speeds up or slows down players based on their direction.
BuzzyCommonTeleports downed teammates or Loot Box to your location after a short wait.
SmokeyCommonDrops a smoke cloud at each bounce, blocking enemy vision.

SparkyCommonExplodes after a short delay, dealing big damage to enemies nearby.

SnatchpawCommonSteals a random item (not weapons or shields) from the closest enemy and shows a hint pointing to you.

Storm EmpressArchonCreates a huge tornado that lifts and damages players over time.

Revamped Weapons and Mod Adjustments

Something that has been bugging players for a long time has been updated this time around, as all weapons have received visual and sound upgrades. Alongside a new ADS system, we have some new animations, scope view, and detailed weapon skins to add to the immersion.

Several weapon mods have also been adjusted, such as reducing recoil for assault rifles and sniper rifles, as well as introducing a new angled grip mod for better control. New Airdrop Weapons will appear the next time you play as Eliminator Shotgun and Arbiter Sniper Rifle will appear on the game.

Sunder Realms Map Changes

The Sunder Realms map has been fully revamped with new terrains and structures greatly improving the ecosystem and giving the map a fresh, new look. You can now slide down ramps, use new cover layouts, and navigate upgraded buildings once you jump into the game after the update. New details like grass and other environmental decorations have been refreshed as well.

The update also adds several new landmarks, such as a giant duck statue and a floating boulder, something that the makers consider useful as positioning guides for you during battles. Recon Beacons, which scan and reveal enemies, have been introduced in places like Nova Bazaar.  When activated, they scan and reveal all enemies on the map, marking them on your mini-map.

New System: Tactical Core

The new Tactical Core system provides more flexibility and smoother in-game development in how you upgrade your heroes. As you level up, you will earn Trait points that can be used to upgrade your hero’s skills, unlock new skills, and boost their overall performance. To fully max out your skills, you’ll need Trait Activation Cards.

You can gain XP in several ways. New XP devices are scattered across the map, and interacting with them will help you collect XP. Additionally, opening Supply Crates provides XP, as do kills and assists, with extra XP available from Tactical Cores found in Loot Boxes.

As for shields, your shield strength is tied to your level. Every time you level up, your shield gets stronger, and if it’s not full when you level up, it will partially refill. To restore shields, you can use Shield Rechargers, Shield Restorers, or loot Tactical Cores from Loot Boxes. If the core’s level matches or is lower than yours, your shield refills. If the core’s level is higher, the extra value becomes a temporary shield for added protection.

Hero Changes, New Events, and other updates

Many changes to several heroes have been made including Beau, Ducksyde, Lucinda, Momoi, and others, all of whom received new abilities or significant upgrades. With these changes, heroes get a fresh look, and their skills are upgraded to make combat more exciting.

Alongside these adjustments, new events like Buddy Showdown and the Rare Consolidation Event offer exciting rewards such as skins, loot boxes, and more. The update’s other features also improved the core gameplay elements, such as character movements, controls, and the camera system. Several System Adjustments have been made as well.
