Fortnite, the popular battle royale game developed by Epic Games is all set to make its return on iOS in Europe this year in 2024, the official confirmation has arrived. The anticipated return is facilitated through the upcoming Epic Games Store for iOS, made possible by the new rules established in Europe via the Digital Markets Act (DMA).
Fortnite hinted at its return to the iOS platform last year
One of the most popular games worldwide, Fortnite was released in 2017. Fortnite you engage in a battle royale format where they fight to be the last person or team standing. We do know the controversial Epic vs Apple battle, and part of it had Fortnite involved in it.
The heart of the matter dates back to August 2020 when the game was removed from the App Store and Google Play Store after the violation of a direct payments policy, with Apple even blacklisting it for five years. Fortnite had a huge number of players on iOS devices and the removal of the game for some time hindered the battle royale game’s huge player base. However, Fortnite did announce a return to iOS devices through Nvidia GeForce Now.
Last year, CEO Tim Sweeney hinted about Fortnite coming to iOS in 2024, and just like he mentioned, it might be coming soon. This can be credited to the European law under the Digital Markets Act aimed at loosening its control and allowing alternative app stores, which was passed back in 2022.
While Fortnite plans to make its return on iOS in Europe through the Epic Games Store in 2024, the specific dates remain undisclosed. Stay tuned for further details as the regulatory timeline is being figured out. Once it comes out in European regions, we can expect the timeline to be announced for the rest of the countries worldwide, although it is not sure if it is a possibility anytime soon.
