The Summer Game Fest has kicked off and major updates on the game industry are coming out. Major studios and developers are dropping some big announcements. Among all the major companies Netflix has turned up the heat by dropping the names of some of their upcoming games to release by the end of 2022. The streaming giant has previously said that they are putting a huge focus on video games.
In the Summer Game Fest, Netflix held their Geeked Week 2022 Virtual event where they revealed the names of their upcoming games. On day 5 of the event, Netflix delighted gamers with some exciting announcements. In their official tweet, Netflix has confirmed that there will be more than 50 games in their library by the end of this year.
List of upcoming games announced at the Netflix Geeked Week 2022
1. Shadow and Bone: Destinies
Netflix dropped Shadow and Bone season 2 news on day 1 of Geeked Week. On day 5 it was revealed that a game adaptation is currently in development and is coming to Netflix in 2023. The game is set in a fictional world called ‘the Grishaverse’ where numerous characters are available and players will be able to start their adventure by selecting one of these characters
2. Too Hot To Handle
The hit dating reality series has premiered on Netflix for three seasons and a fourth season is currently in development. The Too Hot To Handle game will be similar to the show where players will be able to meet and mingle with attractive singles. The game is scheduled for release in 2023.
3. La Casa De Papel: The Game
One of Netflix’s all-time greatest hits is getting a video game adaptation. The game is being developed by Colombian studio, KillaSoft. According to Netflix’s synopsis, “When an old friend of the Professor comes calling to cash in a favor, the La Casa de Papel crew is pulled into a heist to rob a shady billionaire’s casino in Monaco.”
4. The Queen’s Gambit: Chess
Another hit Netflix show starring Anya Taylor Joy is The Queen’s Gambit. The show is being adapted into a game that will feature chess games. The game will allow players to take lessons on chess, play puzzles and compete with other players.
5. Lucky Luna: Lucky Luna
This game is coming to Netflix in the Summer of 2022. The game is a platform puzzler and is designed with 2D pixel art. A new adventure awaits players as they enter into an enchanting and treacherous world with Luna. Check out the game’s trailer.
6. Desta: The Memories Between
Ustwo Games are the developers behind the hit Monument Valley series of games. The game is a turn-based strategy exploration that will allow players to relive memories, rediscover friends, and repair relationships. The game is coming to Netflix in 2022. Check out the game’s trailer.
7. Reigns: Three Kingdom
This game has been developed by Devolver Digital and Nerial, developers based out of the UK. The game starts during the turbulent final years of the Han dynasty. The game has a vast storyline with lots of mini-games and it has a unique swiping mechanic to provide a unique gaming experience to players.
8. Terra Nil
Another game from Devolver Digital is heading to Netflix. Terra Nil is a strategy game that involves building a city amidst fighting climate change. According to the developers, the game features ecosystem reconstruction where players will have to turn a barren wasteland into an ecological paradise.
This game is currently available on Netflix Games and is also developed by Devolver Digital. Poinpy is a Doodle Jump-Esque platformer that enables players to scale an immersive world. Here’s the trailer of the game.
10. Wild Things: Animal Adventures
This game experiments with the match-3 game genre that was popularized by Candy Crush. In this game, players will make matches to rescue animals and build their dream habitat.
11. Raji: An Ancient Epic
This is a game developed by Indian developers, Nodding Head Games. The game was first released on PC in 2020. The game is set in a fantasy world and follows the adventure of a young girl named Raji. She embarks on a quest to rescue her younger brother and fight the demon lord, Mahabalasura.
Spiritfarer is being ported to mobile by Netflix Games and was released this year on PC by Thunder Lotus Games. The game takes players on a unique adventure where they can build their boats to explore the in-game world. Players will be able to farm, mine, fish, harvest, cook, and craft their way across mystical seas. The objective of the game is to “befriend and care for spirits before finally releasing them into the afterlife”.
