Pikmin Bloom: Niantic’s latest AR-based game gets a launch on mobile devices

Walk to grow more Pikmin, walk to make flowers bloom, and walk to log your memories

Niantic has started the global launch of Pikmin Bloom, a free-to-play game that spiced up daily walks. The company is trying to create titles that blend the real and the virtual world. Developed by Niantic’s Tokyo studio, Pikmin Bloom is the latest addition to their AR-based games list. The app is a joint venture of Niantic and Nintendo. Currently, it is out in the United States, Australia and Singapore and will be available on the App Store and Google Play Store over the coming days. Earlier The game was listed under early access in Singapore on Android.

Walk to grow Pikmin

Pikmins are plants that we cannot see with naked eyes. After these tiny plants bloom, they become visible and interactive with people. Players can have unlimited fun with these. Walking is the only way to grow Pikmin in Pikmin Bloom.

The casual walks we do every day will make the flowers bloom along with the path of a player. Collecting petals to plant them will result in creating a colorful trail behind while walking. The world will look alive then.

Players can access their number of steps and the routes they took every day. So, the game is also working as a meter to keep track of the daily activities. Adding notes and photos to the lifelog is another exciting feature as it will create memories to remember later. The game itself will create postcards of the places anyone visits and send them to game friends as gifts.

The game is also confirmed to host a monthly Community Day event, where players can stroll, plant, and play together with other players.

Niantic announced the title last March. Following the partnership with Nintendo, both companies started working on mobile titles built on Niantic’s real-world AR technology. “We’re honored that Nintendo has chosen Niantic to be its publisher of real-world AR applications”, said Niantic after the partnership announcement. Finally, the result is live.
