Sims 5 (Project Rene) will be a free-to-play title without any core game purchase

More friends to invite!

Yet another update on the development of Sims 5, codenamed Project Rene, has been dropped by Electronic Arts, announcing that Sims 5 will be a free-to-play title without any core game purchase, which comes as a delight to the players.

The goal behind the free-to-play Sims 5 experience is to engage in more activities with friends

In the third episode of Behind The Sims, Lyndsay Pearson, the VP of Franchise Creative for The Sims shared that Project Rene will be available for free download, allowing players to quickly join, play, and explore the game without requiring a subscription, initial game purchase, or energy-based mechanics.

The goal behind this is to make it effortless for the players to invite friends, join the game, and enjoy new features, stories, and challenges, extending an open invitation for everyone to play. Apart from this update, there have been mentions regarding how the developers want to present the game.

The development team for the upcoming Sims title is aiming to craft a unique Sims experience, exploring something that they haven’t tried before while also introducing a fresh approach to familiar aspects of the game. The game is aimed at redefining how players engage with the Sims universe, as Project Rene will be a new way to play the Sims.

Players will be able to get the basic weather for free in Sims 5

For example, in Sims 4, the only way to experience weather was by purchasing seasons, but that will change in Sims 5, giving players a free experience of basic weather, and then a pack for purchase focused on different conditions can be shared. This way, the core gameplay would be streamlined in a way players don’t find themselves in the mix, and helpful for everyone who would love a free Sims experience.

Currently, Project Rene is still in development, and hence the release date might take some time to be announced. Nevertheless, we would expect another hit title in the Sims franchise given how the progress is going on.
