HoYoverse‘s Zenless Zone Zero Version 2.5, titled “To Be Fuel for the Night”, launches on December 30, 2025. This update will kick off a new story chapter, two new skins, two new agents, one new Bangboo, various events, tons of free rewards, and more.
This Zenless Zone Zero update looks like a greatly rewarding patch for the fans, truly a “devs listened moment!” Now that’s not just me, but the entire community’s sentiment so far. Many players are already calling this upcoming patch the “unofficial” 2nd anniversary patch for ZZZ, and I can see why.
The patch update comes with plenty of rewards for the players
Along with a handful of free rewards, there are a lot of buffs for old characters and a lot of community requested QOLs. And let’s not forget the reappearance of characters from older updates to help us out.
Let’s make a rundown of what we are getting so far (I won’t be touching story and event rewards)
- Free Jane’s swimsuit outfit
- Free S rank Agent
- Gift of 1,000 Polychromes
- Encrypted Master Tape ×10 and Boopon ×10
- Top-up event to get your choice of S-Rank Agents and S-Rank W-Engines from a pool of 9
- Several fan fav Agents, including Ellen and Burnice, will be receiving buffs and enhancements
- Special Guaranteed character banner (Finally, no 50/50) with 20% off on the 10 pulls.
- A new guild system with rewards
- 6 Big events (one has co-op with fighting, yay)
- Free w-engines (bait used to belie.. wait, it’s real?)
Free Jane’s outfit looks great
Jane’s new undercover job is rather peculiar. I mean, can you imagine playing Jane without that outfit now that it’s free? The outfit and model quality are top-notch and S-tier (wait, do we have costume tiers?) And don’t worry, this won’t be like Vivian’s costume, which needed pulls to unlock; this one will be grab and use on the go.
The Free agent of this ZZZ patch: Zhao
Zhao (S-Rank, Ice Defense) is an upcoming playable Agent in the Zenless Zone Zero 2.5 update and a member of the Krampus Compliance Authority, which will be given free in this patch. She’s not bad as an S rank, and she’s cute, so that’s a two-in-one bonus.
Choices of S-Rank Agents and S-Rank W-Engines
Zenless Zone Zero Version 2.5 will drop a special event in which you can top up a specific amount or an item, and you can then choose from an S-Rank agent and an S-Rank W-Engine selection pool of 9.
From what I have seen so far, unlocking monthly and BP during the event counts as well, so that’s nice.
The Free W-Engines system
The new 2.5 Update will introduce a system in which this convertible gold currency could only be obtained from the Battle Pass, but it turns out that you can also buy it directly if you want. It is very good for F2P players (like me).
How does it work, you ask? You can convert the W-Engine chips into that gold currency to exchange for S-Rank W-Engines. But there’s a limit to it. 60 W-Engine chip = 1 Gold currency. 4 Gold currency = 1 S rank Engine. I am expecting it will be limited, but hey, it’s better than nothing.
I am definitely going to be busy this holiday, grinding away to get Ye Shunguang and her W-Engine while asking my friends if they can co-op with me. This ZZZ 2.5 patch is going to be one of the best yet from Hoyoverse for Zenless Zone Zero, and I hope they keep delivering it and keep breaking the expectations of the fans.
