Diego Armando Maradona is finally making his long-awaited return to EA Sports FC 25 and FC Mobile this month. After initially being removed from the game back in EA Sports FIFA 22 and FIFA Mobile due to a legal dispute over image rights, the Argentine World Champion is making his grand comeback on February 20th.
EA has recently confirmed across their social media platforms, that El Pibe de Oro ie Maradona is joining EA Sports FC 25 on Feb 14th and FC Mobile on Feb 20th respectively. Diego Maradona could be arriving back as an Icon in the game as part of the ongoing Team of the Year (TOTY) event or any other upcoming event.
Diego Maradona will be making his long-awaited comeback to the franchise
Diego Maradona initially made his entry as an Icon in EA Sports FIFA 18 and FIFA Mobile 18, back in 2018, when the game still had the official FIFA license before EA’s rift with FIFA. Since then Maradona has been a mainstay in both EA Sports FIFA and FIFA Mobile as an Icon till 2022, when he was unceremoniously removed from the game.
Back in 2022, EA had to pull out Maradona from the game entirely after a court ruled that EA had negotiated the player’s likeness rights with Stefano Ceci, Maradona’s former manager, despite not owning them. This came to light after multiple lawsuits were filed by Sattvica, a company owned by Maradona’s former lawyer, Matias Morlaregarding the rights to Maradona’s trademark and likeness since the player’s death.
EA in response issued a heartfelt statement stating their disappointment in removing Diego Maradona entirely from the game but did mention their intentions to bring back “one of football’s greatest icons back in the game at some point in the future.” And finally, after spending three years away from the series, the Argentine World Champion is returning to the EA Sports franchise this month.
Maradona might not be the only “new” Icon coming to FC Mobile
As per leaks and speculation on X (Formerly Twitter), a roster of new Icons and Heroes could be making their way to both EA Sports FC 25 and FC Mobile in the coming days. According to popular leaker ASY FUT, Diego Maradona, Franz Beckenbauer, Gervinho, Seydou Doumbia, and Víctor Ibarbo have all been added by EA to arrive as Icon or Heroes in the coming days.
Franz “Kaiser” Beckenbauer could be arriving after a long hiatus as well, having last made an appearance in EA Sports FIFA 17 and FIFA Mobile 17. The German has been missing since, due to subsequent removal from the game over a suspension from the FIFA Ethics Committee. While both Maradona and Beckenbauer are expected to arrive as Icons, Gervinho, Doumbia, and Ibarbo could make their appearance in FC 25 and FC Mobile as Heroes.
Given their history in the EA Sports FIFA franchise, the AS Roma trio of Gervinho, Doumbia, and Ibarbo had been fan-favorites in days past with their blistering pace and agility. Needless to say, when they arrive again as Heroes for the first time, players will be reminiscing their days back in FIFA 15.
