NetEase Games has arrived with a beautiful-looking simulation game titled Floatopia. This was one of the games showcased at the gamescom 2024 Opening Night Live on August 21, 2024. The game will be launching across multiple platforms including Mobile, PC, and Consoles in 2025.
One thing to note here is that the gamescom ONL trailer does not mention the mobile release. But NetEase Games has confirmed to us that the game is indeed coming to Android and iOS as well.
Floatopia offers you a beautiful otherworldly setting with floating islands
With its debut at gamescom, we could get a glimpse of what Floatopia is about. The game invites us to explore a magical world of floating islands, where one can enjoy relaxing activities like farming, fishing, and decorating your home, all while floating above the clouds.
From the announcement trailer, the art looks cute and on the graphics side, it seems to check all the boxes for what you’d want in a life simulator. It makes a great environment where you can adjust escape the real world and relax in a soothing, virtual life. There are different characters too as shown such as Pandy and Blit-z, so we might have an option to choose the character of our liking.
In Floatopia, you’ll encounter a world where superpowers are common. The game adds a touch of magic to everyday tasks, letting you unwind and have fun in a dreamy fantasy world. Join forces with characters who have these unique powers and discover new various places, each with its own unique culture and breathtaking landscapes from deserts to ice fields.
In Floatopia, you’ll experience superpowers that let you farm, fish in the sea of clouds, fly through the skies, and catch charming animals. You can even change the weather to suit your mood. Plus, you’ll have the freedom to design your island and home with a variety of themed decorations, creating a space that’s uniquely yours as you invite friends over and party.
Floatopia will release in 2025 although no dates are confirmed
From the overall look, I feel the closest comparison would be Nintendo’s blockbuster title Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, not on the visual side though. However, I expect the features to be somewhat similar, which the gameplay trailer hasn’t touched yet, but with more info coming out soon, we’ll get an overview of what we can expect in this game.
There is also Sims 5 (Project Rene) coming, although it won’t likely have a “fantasy” setting to compete with this game. Currently, Floatopia by NetEase Games is slated to release in 2025 for PlayStation5 (PS5), Nintendo Switch, Xbox (Series X|S), PC, Android and iOS.
