On June 14 2020, the Director of the Global Esports of PUBG Mobile, James Jinho Yang announced PUBG Mobile World League (PMWL) 2020. All the squads in season zero of PUBG Mobile World League will compete for a huge total prize pool of 850,000 USD. Initially, this league was to be held in the new state of the art studio in Katowice, Poland. The safety concerns arose due to COVID-19 forced the authorities to take the tournament online. The transformation from offline to online was difficult yet critical to the success of PMWL 2020. It needed additional tech solution to allow for a best possible balanced ping for each participating team connecting tournament servers.
The teams worked very hard to achieve this feat but just days before the commencement of the tournament, the team faced a complex challenge. It affected some West League Pro teams that qualified for PMWL 2020 Season Zero.
PMWL 2020 will be an online event
Amid travel restrictions and worldwide rise in cases related to COVID-19, they will not be able to relocate the teams to latency friendly countries. That’s why they can’t ensure competitive ping for the squads. PUBG Mobile Esports team communicated with all the affected teams. And offered them the choice of either compete from home or forfeiting the whole league.
Finally, all the teams agreed to compete in PMWL 2020 online as it was the only viable solution. PMWL 2020 Online tournament is starting from July 10, 2020. You can witness the action packed battle arena live on the official Youtube channel. The live stream will start at 17:30 IST for PMWL East and 20:00 CEST/11:00 PST for PMWL West.
