eFootball PES 2020: Celtic Iconic Moments review

Since the introduction of Iconic Moments to PES 2020the talks of players and their performances were non-stop. Players were excited and tried to pack them via a Special Agent, which did give them a slim chance for a player pull. While some of them have a great collection of Iconic Moment Legends, the rest of them have nothing special to show off, with a fewer count. To help you with understanding those players, we have been giving a detailed review of each one of them, where this article is about the Celtic Iconic Moments.

Currently, only one Celtic Iconic Moments is released, which is Nakamura. Whenever any new Celtic Iconic Moments are released, this review will be updated with the new set of players. If Iconic Moments released in PES 2021 are different compared to PES 2020, they will be reviewed in a different guide. We have previously reviewed the Iconic Moments players of the following clubs, so feel free to check these reviews out.

Celtic Iconic Moments

This list starts and ends with Shunsuke Nakamura. This review will be about him.

Playing Style: Creative Playmaker

Looking back at that iconic moment match

Celtic faced European giants Manchester United in the group stages of the 2006-2007 Champions League fixture at Celtic Park. Having lost the away fixture in an exciting match with lead to a 3-2 scoreline, Celtic wanted this win to stay alive in the competition. However, the Scottish side edged past United for the first time ever, thanks to a wonderful Shunsuke Nakamura free-kick and a penalty save from Artur Boruc.

Also, this was the first time Celtic finally edged through to the knock-out phase of the Champions League, ever since it was rebranded in 1992 from the European Cup. Celtic was uncharacteristically timid in their approach, playing with two solid blocks of four and providing nothing for their strikers, in simple a 4-4-2. Neither goalkeeper had been threatened until an ambitious 20-yard volley from United’s Wayne Rooney skidded narrowly wide on 29 minutes.

A mistake from Bobo Balde then allowed Cristiano Ronaldo to race in on goal but the defender’s recovering lunge took the pace off the Portuguese star’s shot and Boruc got down smartly to save. The second half and the real turning point was the yellow carding of Paul Scholes for a rash challenge at the start of the half. Then came a classic perfect free-kick opportunity for Nakamura. Few if any out with of Celtic would have believed he’d have a chance to score, but somehow he did and it was a glorious free-kick which can’t be bettered. Majestic it truly was.

The drama wasn’t over, and Man U got a penalty near the death of the game after Maloney was harshly (but rightly) judged to have given one away with a handball, but revenge for Boruc who saved the shot from the hapless Saha who also squandered another gilt-edged opportunity later in the game.

Nakamura in PES 2020

Nakamura was the only Iconic Moments player who came in a GP Box Draw. This was open to many assumptions, as players thought more Iconic Moments will be available in the game via box draws, but that never is the case. The Japanese player in PES comes as an interesting case, who was easily available via the box draw but less utilized. He was hailed in the beginning but suddenly opinions were changing and he is now completely left out. However, we got a hand on him and we will tell you how we felt.

Player Analysis

Naka joins the elite list of Creative Playmaker playstyle players and possesses amazing stats on paper. He is really good on the ball, very silky, and can do some amazing touches and skills like Double Touch and Marseille Turn, and can get past through the opposition. But honestly, he isn’t a dribbler’s best choice, as even though he has 91 Dribbling and 86 Balance stats at max level, he finds it difficult to get a quick turn and will lose possession quite easily under pressure.

He is amazing at Passing, without question. His 90+ Low and Lofted Passing ensure he finds his teammate accurately. Skills added to his card like One-touch Pass, Through Passing, Weighted Pass makes him a constant creator in the central areas of the pitch, which helps you distribute balls to create a constant threat to the goal. He is also a fantastic crosser of the ball and does use his left foot often to get those Outside foot crosses.

Naka is a decent finisher and has a good Long Shot attributes. The plus comes with his 98 Curl, which makes him deadly while shooting long-range curlers. He does not disappoint in that department. His set-pieces are amazing too, a standout. Without a doubt, his card should have a 99 Place Kicking stat for that goal against United.

The negatives of this player start with stamina, as he can’t survive after 70 minutes of the game. Especially you can see this under an aggressive pressing manager. So you definitely need to have other mids do the defending covering for him. Weak foot won’t be a big issue, as you can use the Outside Curler if you want to go towards goal.

Formation discussion

Nakamura fits well in an offensive role paired with two highly ground-covering midfielders. Possibly the best formations are 4-3-1-2, 4-2-1-3, 3-4-1-2. He can also fit as a Right Midfielder in a 4-2-2-2 or a 4-1-3-2.
