- One Store will look to offer localized services and hence a more personalized experience
- One Store looks to enter the US market later this year, with an eye on launching in the EU in early 2025
- With competitions entering, the Apple and Google mobile market monopoly might be in jeopardy
One Store is gearing up to challenge the global dominance of Apple and Google in the mobile app market. South Korea’s homegrown app marketplace hosted a press conference earlier this week on August 28, 2024, to unveil its ambitious global expansion plans.
One Store will look to offer a country-tailored personalized experience
This marketplace plans to actively engage in what is called a hyperlocalization approach. With this idea, the app store looks to offer localized services tailored to the specific needs of each country’s mobile market. Hence, a more personalized experience is being offered, which will differ from what we see as a “same-for-all” approach from Apple and Google.
Speaking on the same, One Store Chief Executive Jeon Dong-jin added: “We will offer services specifically tailored to local demand, a move that will differentiate us from Apple and Google operating app stores under a unified policy regardless of the country. One Store aims to become the most competitive app market globally by 2030.”
Epic Games also welcomed the move, with the company VP and the head of Global Partnership Nate Nanzer confirmed to add their mobile versions to the One Store as it arrives. Following its successful launches in Taiwan and Singapore, ONE Store is gearing up to expand its global reach.
The company plans to enter the US market later this year, with an eye on launching in the EU in early 2025. Notably, the EU launch will be available on both Android and iOS devices, as Apple has officially certified ONE Store for its platform.
The Apple and Google mobile market monopoly might be in jeopardy
It is no hidden secret that the Google Play Store and the App Store have been the go-to marketplace for Android and iOS devices respectively. To counter it, Epic Games arrived with its highly anticipated mobile marketplace Epic Games Store mid-August this year and is already making moves to end the monopoly of the two giants, such as making Rocket League Sideswipe exclusive to the store.
The new marketplaces emerging will be a boon to the consumers for sure, as we have already seen a lot of complaints regarding the tight grip on app distribution these two companies have. The 30% fee on users’ in-app purchases has been controversial for a long, and it would be helpful for games to be able to appear in different marketplaces where the fees are minimal.
