Everything you need to know about Kinich to bring him to the max potential!

Genshin Impact Version 5.0 debuts the new event-exclusive 5* character “Turnfire Hunt” Kinich (dendro/claymore). This guide will explain everything about how to build Kinich and play him in Genshin Impact.

Genshin Impact Kinich Guide: Abilities description

Talent upgrade priority

Elemental Skill > Elemental Burst

Elemental Skill: Canopy Hunter: Riding High

Kinich uses his big-game hunting skills to either move swiftly or attack his opponent. When there is an opponent or object that can be attacked nearby, he will attach a grappling hook to the target and enter Nightsoul’s Blessing with 0 Nightsoul points.

If neither is nearby, he fires a grappling hook forward and swings in mid-air, and this Skill’s CD is decreased by 60%. This skill can be Held to release. When it is Held, Kinich can aim the grappling hook.

Nightsoul’s Blessing: Kinich

Kinich’s Nightsoul’s Blessing lasts 10s and generates 2 Nightsoul points every second.
In this state, Kinich will hook onto a nearby opponent and perform a variable attack:

  • When using a Normal Attack, Kinich will fire Loop Shots as he loops around the grappled target based on his current movement direction, dealing Nightsoul-aligned Dendro DMG and generating 3 Nightsoul points. Loop Shot DMG is considered Elemental Skill DMG.
  • When Nightsoul points are at max, he can use the Elemental Skill “Scalespiker Cannon“: Consume all Nightsoul points to deal with Nightsoul-aligned Dendro DMG. When the “Scalespiker Cannon” is Held, Kinich can aim this shot. After firing the Cannon, Kinich will try to grapple to its target.

In Nightsoul’s Blessing, after grappling an opponent or firing the “Scalespiker Cannon,” a Blind Spot will be generated next to the opponent. When Kinich enters this Blind Spot, it will disappear and he will generate 4 Nightsoul points.

If the grapple connection should snap due to exceeding the maximum distance or some other reason, using a Normal Attack will establish a new connection with a nearby opponent before performing Loop Shots.

Elemental Burst: Hail to the Almighty Dragonlord

Unleashes the power of the Almighty Dragonlord, K’uhul Ajaw (on a limited, conditional, restricted, contractual, partial, temporary basis), dealing Nightsoul-aligned AoE Dendro DMG. Ajaw will unleash his Dragon Breath at intervals, dealing Nightsoul-aligned AoE Dendro DMG. If Kinich is in Nightsoul’s Blessing when this is used, this Blessing’s duration is extended by 1.7s.

Ascension 1 Passive: The Price of Desolation

When Kinich is in Nightsoul’s Blessing state, opponents hit by his Elemental Skill will enter the Desolation state, and when affected by Burning or Burgeon reaction DMG, they will restore 7 Nightsoul points to him. Nightsoul points can be gained this way once every 0.8. The Desolation state will persist until this instance of Kinich’s Nightsoul’s Blessing state ends.

Ascension 4 Passive: Flame Spirit Pact

After a nearby party member triggers a Nightsoul Burst, Kinich will gain 1 stack of Hunter’s Experience that lasts 15. Max 2 stacks. When Kinich uses Canopy Hunter: Riding High’s Scalespiker Cannon, all stacks of Hunter’s Experience will be consumed, with each stack consumed increasing the DMG dealt by this Cannon shot by 320% of Kinich’s ATK.

Night Realm’s Gift Passive: Repaid in Full

When Kinich is in the air following Canopy Hunter: Riding High‘s mid-air swing, he can consume 10 Phlogiston points to perform another mid-air swing. While in an area with Phlogiston Mechanics within Natlan, he can use Nightsoul Transmission: Kinich.

When the current active character is sprinting, in movement states that result from specific Talents, or in the air, when you switch to Kinich: Kinich will perform one of the following actions depending on the conditions met:

  • When facing a Coilgrass Sigil that can be interacted with: He will fire a grappling hook towards it to move.
  • When there are nearby opponents and you are in combat: Kinich will use Canopy Hunter: Riding High in the direction of the opponents.

Otherwise, Kinich will fire a grappling hook and swing, prioritizing valid Coilgrass Sigils as grapple targets.
Nightsoul Transmission can be triggered once every 10 seconds by your party.

When interacting with Coilgrass Sigils and other items that Yumkasaurs can interact with, “Canopy Hunter: Riding High” will be converted to “Yumkasaur Mimesis,” which causes interactions with such items to follow rules applicable to Yumkasaurs, and which will not put Canopy Hunter: Riding High on CD.

Utility Passive: Swift Envoy

While in an area with Phlogiston Mechanics within Natlan, interacting with some harvestable items will increase your own party members’ Movement SPD by 15% for 10s. Additionally, the location of nearby resources unique to Natlan will appear on your mini-map.

Genshin Impact Kinich Guide: Abilities explained

Elemental Skill: Canopy Hunter: Riding High

Kinich grapples onto the nearest enemy and circles around it. This is called the Nightsoul State and he gains a new bar next to him, which denotes Nightsoul Points. Using Normal Attacks will fire Loop Shots which generate 3 Nightsoul Points.

Entering the randomly generated triangle will generate 4 points. He will also passively generate 2 points every second. When his Nightsoul bar is full (20 points) he can fire a cannon. This cannon fire is the primary source of his DMG. He can also aim the cannon fire by holding the button.

The Loop Shots count as Elemental Skill DMG but they can also trigger Yelan/Xingqiu‘s followup attacks, but not Beidou‘s Burst. If the grapple connection is lost, using a Normal Attack will cause him to reconnect to the nearest enemy. The DMG of these Loop Shots is very low. The main purpose is to generate Nightsoul Points for the cannon fire, which has over 1000% multiplier.

Outside of combat, this Skill is very useful in exploration. Using the Skill once will make Kinich grapple forward. While in mid-air, he can use the Skill again. He can also hold the Skill to aim the grapple.

Elemental Burst: Hail to the Almighty Dragonlord

Using the Burst will deal with one small instance of DMG. Then it will summon the dragon Ajaw which will periodically shoot fire at the enemies on the field. The DMG is very low.

The main purpose of this Burst is to apply Dendro on enemies to keep the Burning reaction going. Using Burst also increases the Nightsoul State from the Skill by 1.7, which also happens to be the length of the Burst animation so it cancels out.

Ascension 1 Passive: The Price of Desolation

When enemies hit by Kinich’s Skill are affected by Burning or Burgeon, 7 Nightsoul Points are generated. This makes it easier to fire off more cannon shots.

Ascension 4 Passive: Flame Spirit Pact

When party members do elemental DMG and trigger Nightsoul Burst, Kinich will gain a stack (max 2) and each stack will increase the cannon’s DMG by 320% of his ATK (max 640% at 2 stacks).

Night Realm’s Gift Passive: Repaid in Full

After becoming airborne by grappling, Kinich can use Normal Attack midair only once to continue staying airborne. Switching to Kinich while exploring will make him grapple at the nearest Coilgrass Sigil. Switching to Kinich mid-combat will make him grapple to the nearest enemy. Kinich’s Skill can also interact with everything that Yumkasaurs can interact with.

Utility Passive: Swift Envoy

Harvesting certain items inside Natlan increases the movement speed of the party. Most importantly, Natlan regional specialities are marked on the mini-map.

Genshin Impact Kinich Guide: Playstyle

Kinich is meant to be a Dendro Hypercarry that relies heavily on the Burning/Burgeon reaction to gain buffs. He needs to have at least one teammate who can consistently apply off-field Pyro. If the enemies are affected by Burning/Burgeon, he can fire off at least one more cannon shot.

  • Set up buffs from teammates
  • Set up off-field Pyro (very important)
  • Use Skill
  • Normal Attack to generate Nightsoul Points
  • Move to the randomly generated triangle whenever it appears and gain Nightsoul Points
  • Shoot the cannon when the Nightsoul bar is full
  • Use Burst when available

Genshin Impact Kinich Guide: Best Team Compositions for Kinich

Kinich’s best team involves maintaining Burning on enemies so he can gain the related buffs. Xiangling provides a lot of personal DMG but her off-field Pyro application is reliant on her Burst. Having Bennett as a teammate helps but it does not fix the issue.

Dhya’s Pyro application is from her Skill which makes it more reliable. But you miss out on Xiangling’s extra DMG. Thoma’s Pyro application is also reliant on his Burst but he offers defensive utility with his shield. Emilie is a really good teammate to have since she also prefers the Burning reaction and brings her DMG to the table just like Xiangling.

Replacing Emilie with a sub-DPS that does not interfere with Burning also works.

Including a Hydro sub-DPS will create the opportunity to have Burgeon reactions in the team, which is also beneficial to Kinich.

C3Howler Monkey’s Tail

Increases the Level of Hail to the Almighty Dragonlord by 3.
The maximum upgrade level is 15.
C4Hummingbird’s Feather

Additionally, Hail to the Almighty Dragonlord deals 70% more DMG.
C5Howler Monkey’s Tail

Increases the Level of Hail to the Almighty Dragonlord by 3.
Maximum upgrade level is 15.
C6Auspicious Beast’s Shape

After Scalespiker Cannon hits an opponent, it will bounce between opponents once, dealing 700% of Kinich’s ATK as Dendro DMG.
If this Scalespiker Cannon triggers the buffs that Passive Talent “Flame Spirit Pact” or the Constellation “Tiger Beetle’s Palm” grant to the Cannon, the bouncing attack will also obtain the relevant buffs.
  • C1: A massive CRIT DMG increase
  • C2: Reducing enemies Dendro RES means his DMG will be greater
  • C3: Three additional levels to his Elemental Skill which is his primary source of DMG
  • C4: The extra energy is useful, and so is the increased Burst DMG, but neither is impactful since it is not the main source of his DMG
  • C5: Three additional levels to his Burst
  • C6: Increases his DMG in multi-target. It is also impactful in a single target because it will bounce back to the same enemy

Kinich is a fully functional unit at C0, constellations merely increase his DMG so do not feel pressured to pull for them. C1, C2, and C3 are all great stopping points, meanwhile, C6 is the best one. That’s our Kinich guide in Genshin Impact. Read more of our Genshin Impact content here:
