Crustle is one of the many characters that can be played in the Pokémon Unite MOBA. Crustle is a melee defender that specializes in using movement to roam around the map and scoring as many points as possible. Because of this, Crustle is optimally played in the top lane. In this guide, we will take a closer look at the best battle items, and abilities, including tips and tricks to play Crustle in Pokémon Unite.
Previously, we have discussed how to master playing with other Pokémons like Pikachu, Mamoswine, Eldegoss, Zeraora, Blissey, Charizard, Snorlax, Tsareena, Decidueye, Dragonite, Talonflame, Cinderace, Greninja, Gardevoir, Venusaur, Wigglytuff, Trevenant, Gengar, Lucario, and Aegislash. Therefore, one must make sure to check those guides as well. For now, let’s focus on Crustle.
Crustle: In-game Cost
Crustle can either be purchased from the Unite Battle Committee or by completing the “beginner challenge”, a set of six missions that will reward the player with a Crustle license for their completion.
Crustle is one of the more expensive Pokémon available for purchase. It can be purchased for either 10000 Aeos coins or 500 Aeos Gems from the in-game shop called the Unite Battle Committee. The shop consists of all the characters available from which players can view general info, stats, and abilities of the Pokémon before purchasing them.
Pokémon Unite Crustle movesets
Crustle’s movesets revolve around using either crowd control or movement speed, to land abilities that are usually difficult to hit.

Every third attack deals damage in an area and slows down opponents. The boosted attack deals extra damage based on Crustle’s attack.

Atk and increasing Crustle’s movement speed for a short time.|

Best items for Crustle in Pokémon Unite
Further in this guide, we will discuss the best-held items for Crustle in Pokémon Unite, as well as its best battle items.
Best Held items for Crustle
|Item||Why it’s useful|
|Focus Band||Crustle’s passive “Sturdy” increases Crustle’s defense and special defense, whenever Crustle is hit, which can stack. Because of this, Crustle will often continue to fight at low health, due to having multiple stacks of the ability, by then. Because of this, Focus Band is a great item to use on Crustle. In this way, Crustle can recover health and continue to fight at low HP. Focus Band also gives Crustle defense and special defense, which both synergize well with Crustle’s high health.|
|Buddy Barrier||Buddy Barrier is an extremely versatile item, that is used on Crustle to increase Crustle’s base health. Crustle’s Unite move “Rubble Rouser” is a great tool, to engage in fights with. By using Buddy Barrier, players are granted more shields on top of their shield, given from the Unite move. This means that players can run straight into the center of the enemy team in teamfights, which allow players to soak up damage for the team.|
|Score Shield||Score shield is the most important item on Crustle. Crustle’s moveset offers a high amount of mobility and crowd control, both of which are great for scoring goals. Because Crustle has high base health, Crustle can easily sneak past the enemy team and score a goal with a large score shield. Players can then use the mobility and crowd control abilities to leave the enemy goal safely, taking very little damage in the process.|
Best Battle items for Crustle
- Eject Button: Eject Button instantly lets Crustle a short distance of choice. This item has a 70-second cooldown. Eject button is a universally powerful battle item, that can let Crustle engage, disengage or use as a combo tool.
- Slow Smoke: Slow Smoke greatly reduces the movement speed of opposing Pokémon for a short period of time. Slow Smoke is the best battle item on Crustle, because Crustle doesn’t need an escape tool like X-Speed or Eject Button thanks to the high mobility and health Crustle already has. Slow Smoke can be used to make aggressive plays and preventing the opposing Pokémon from escaping. It can be used to make hitting your abilities easier, as Crustle’s abilities such as X-Scissor and Stealth Rock can be hard to land if your opponent has lots of mobility.
- Potion: Potion is a 30-second cooldown item that heals the user for 12.5% of their maximum health. Because Crustle does not require more movement speed, Potion can be used to constantly stay at high health.
Pokémon Unite Crustle Gameplay Tips
Our Pokémon Unite Crustle guide includes the perfect game plan for the early and late game during the Unite battles.
In the early game, the player’s main goal as Crustle is to score as many goals as possible. When the game starts, the best play is to get one of the starting Aipoms. Players must then run straight to the opposing goal and score a goal for some early XP. Once level four is reached, Crustle unlocks Shell Smash. Once the Smell smash is unlocked, Crustle should aim to score as many small goals as possible and slowly take the opponent’s goal, by using the high health and speed to get an advantage.
During the early game, the partner in the lane is usually an attacker. Therefore, players make sure to use their crowd control to either displace their opponents into their attackers, so they can get a kill or displace the opponent away from the attackers. They can escape safely. By the time, Drednaw spawns, Crustle should be around level 6-7 and have both abilities ready. Because Crustle has high mobility Crustle should nearly always rotate to the bottom lane for Drednaw before it spawns.
By the late game, one should have a level lead from making aggressive early-game plays. Players should try to use this level led to carry the rest of your team ahead. Like with all other characters, securing Zapdos with your team is a necessity. Once Zapdos spawns, Crustle should attempt to use their UNITE move, and hit as many enemies as possible with it to greatly reduce their health and protect your team from taking damage
Positioning of Crustle
Because Crustle is a defender, Crustle is primarily played in the top lane with an attacker. However, Crustle can also be played as a supporter. If Crustle is played in the top lane the best abilities to use are Shell Smash and X-Scissor, but if Crustle is being played in the bottom lane, the best abilities are Rock Tomb and Stealth Rock.
Being a defender, Crustle should try to stay in front of their teammates and soak up as much damage as possible. Unlike other defenders, Crustles’ playstyle revolves more around making solo plays and split pushing to get goals around the map.
