Introducing the Map in Honor of Kings

For new MOBA players, learning the map in Honor of Kings is one of the most important steps toward being better in its mechanics. Compared to other popular mobile MOBAs, the map of the game is a bit more basic and straightforward. However, there are still numerous things to keep track of. Therefore, it is crucial to learn about the map to succeed in the game.

Three Lanes Four Quadrant Map

The Honor of Kings map design effectively captures the essence of a classic MOBA experience. The three-lane system of the map, with three towers protecting each lane’s base, is a staple feature of almost every MOBA game.

Friendly creeps spawn from the bases, and the jungle area contains neutral monsters for players to hunt down for gold and experience points. These elements combine to create an engaging and challenging gameplay experience that requires players to balance attacking and defending objectives while managing their resources.

The map includes two objectives that give buffs to the entire team and two buffs that enhance players’ attack, ability, and mana regen. This combination of map features creates a game world that players can fully immerse themselves in and master.

The three-lane system format is an iconic feature of MOBAs and is reminiscent of the early days of the genre, particularly the Defense of the Ancients. The map design in Honor of Kings captures this tradition while also introducing new elements that make the game more dynamic and exciting. Overall, the map design in Honor of Kings is a testament to the game’s commitment to delivering a classic MOBA experience while also pushing the genre forward.

The Lanes

As said above, in Honor of Kings, players have three lanes to choose from, with each lane containing three towers to defend their base. The layout of the lanes and the roles that need to be filled to win the game are similar to those found in other MOBA games. Each position in the lane is critical to the team’s success and must be filled with a player who can execute their role effectively. Here are the positions:

  • Farm Lane – Marksman Carry and Support
  • Clashlane – Tank/Bruiser
  • Midlane – Mid lane Mage
  • Roam/Jungle – Roaming Assasin or Crowd Controller

Understanding the different roles in a team is crucial to achieving success in Honor of Kings. The game’s maps are mirrored, making it easy to distinguish the safe lane from the off lane based on the distance between the first and second towers.

The longer lane is considered the safe lane, while the shorter lane is the off lane. It’s important to note that the off-laner’s main responsibility is to poke the enemy carry and prevent them from snowballing. This makes it essential for the off-laner and the carry to always face off against each other. By doing so, the team can effectively protect its base and dominate the game.

The Jungle Camps

Jungling is one of the roles in Honor of Kings that are also present in other MOBA games. Objectively, it can be considered the role with the biggest skill requirement in the game. The jungler must learn the jungle camps and has the responsibility to help other lanes and take control of the objectives.

The jungling camps in the map include a total of six neutral monsters per half of the map which includes two buff monsters that give temporary strength to the players that would defeat them. There are also two more monsters present in the river that gives players gold and experience points.

The Tyrants

The tyrants are the early game objective present in the game. It gives gold, exp, and buffs to whoever kills the tyrant. It is an important objective to prioritize by junglers in the early game. There are two versions of the tyrant present in the game the Tyrant and the Shadow Tyrant. Each does the same thing but is just harder to kill with better stats and gives improved buffs.

The Overlords

The overlords are the mid-game objective present in the game. It gives gold, exp, and push potential to whichever team kills the overlord. It is an important objective that may end the game when timed perfectly. As same with the tyrants, there is also a total of two types of overlords available in the game, the Overlord and the Shadow Overlord. Each does the same thing but is just harder to kill with better stats and gives improved buffs.

Tempest Dragon

The tempest dragon in Honor of Kings may be considered the end-game monster of the game. The tempest dragon is the strongest spawning neutral monster in the game and gives huge buffs to the entire team of the player once defeated. The dragon gives a buff that attacks the enemy players just by being around, this ability is strong enough to tilt the tides of battle from a losing position to win the game with a team fight of a full tempest-empowered team against the enemies.

Teleport Flower

There is one interesting feature in Honor of Kings that is simply not present in most MOBA games. This is the teleport flower that can be located in the clash lane of the map. Destroying this flower will allow players to teleport down to the Tyrant’s location in the river. This is an extremely useful tool when having to respond on skirmishes way out to the farm lane or the Tyrant fight.

The End Goals Base

Like most of the MOBA that is available out there (in exclusion of Pokemon Unite) the final and most important objective of all is to destroy the enemy base. The base has a huge structure that, when destroyed, prompts the team’s defeat. It is the main goal to protect the base and destroy the enemy’s base. When destroying all the turrets in one lane super creeps spawn to attack the enemy’s base this helps the team to breach the base defense and finish the game off.
