Hoopa is one of the many characters that can be played in the Pokémon Unite MOBA. Hoopa is a ranged supporter that specializes in roaming around the map at high speeds and making large macro plays. Because Hoopa is a supporter, Hoopa is optimally played in the bottom lane with an all-rounder as a lane partner. In this guide, we will take a closer look at the best battle items, and abilities, including tips and tricks to play Hoopa in Pokémon Unite.
Previously, we have discussed how to master playing with other Pokémons like Pikachu, Mamoswine, Eldegoss, Zeraora, Blissey, Charizard, Snorlax, Tsareena, Decidueye, Dragonite, Talonflame, Cinderace, Greninja, Gardevoir, Venusaur, Wigglytuff, Trevenant, Gengar, Lucario, Aegislash and Crustle. Therefore, one must make sure to check those guides as well. For now, let’s focus on Hoopa.
Hoopa: In-game Cost
Hoopa can either be purchased from the Unite Battle Committee or free. Hoopa is one of the more expensive Pokémon available for purchase.
It can be purchased for either 10000 Aeos coins or 500 Aeos Gems from the in-game shop called the Unite Battle Committee. The shop consists of all the characters available from which players can view general info, stats, and abilities of the Pokémon before purchasing them.
Pokémon Unite Hoopa movesets
Hoopa’s moveset can vary depending on playstyle. One option is to play using “Hyperspace Hole”, a move that will teleport players across the map instantly, the other is to use “Trick”. A move that will shield, increase the movement speed and increase the damage of Hoopa, an allied pokemon. In this guide, we will look at the movesets and abilities for Hoopa in Pokémon Unite.
Passive – Magician
In battles, where the map is divided into an allied team and an opposing team side, this ability creates a hole under one of the Berries on the opposing team’s side, chosen at random and warps it to right in front of Hoopa. If there are no berries on the opposing team’s side, but there is Aeos Energy on the ground, then some energy is warped in front of Hoopa instead.
In the event that no berries from the opposing team’s side were warped, the cooldown until this Ability’s next use is reduced.
Becomes a boosted attack with every third attack, dealing damage to opposing Pokémon by unleashing a beam of light. When Hoopa is unbound, it unleashes beams of light with every basic attack, dealing damage to up to two nearby opposing Pokémon.
Ability 1 – Confusion
Has the player unleashed a telekinetic force in the designated direction, dealing damage to the first opposing Pokémon it hits. The telekinetic force clings to that Pokémon and then causes a delayed explosion. The explosion deals damage to the opposing Pokémon in the area of effect and decreases their movement speed for a short time.
Ability choices at level 6
Ability 1 evolves into one of the two abilities at level 6.
|Hoopa creates a large ring at the designated location, dealing damage to opposing Pokémon in the area of effect. After a set amount of time, Hoopa and any ally Pokémon in the area of effect will return to their base, and their movement speed will be increased for a short time. Ally Pokémon that returns to their base in this manner, must wait a short time before the HP recovery from being in their base triggers. These ally Pokémon can also warp back to where the large ring was created. |
An intact ally forward goal zone can also be designated, as the location where the large ring is created. Creating the ring on the forward goal zone of the top path will also create a ring on the forward goal zone of the bottom path and vice versa. All ally Pokémon, including Hoopa, can use these rings to warp between the two-goal zones, and their movement speed will be increased for a short time after warping.
After an ally Pokémon warps, there is a set cooldown before that ally can use these rings again. If a path’s forward goal zone is destroyed, the middle goal zone on the same path will take its place. This move cannot be used on a base goal zone.
|Hoopa creates a link between itself and an ally Pokémon using a ring, increasing both of their movement speeds and granting them each a shield for a short time. When Hoopa uses Shadow Ball or performs a basic attack, the ring on the linked Pokémon also unleashes the same move or attack. |
Hoopa can also use this move on itself, increasing Hoopa’s movement speed and granting itself a shield for a short time. Additionally, it increases the damage dealt by Shadow Ball.
|Upgrade: It also increases the movement speed of all Pokémon near the ring when they are heading toward it||Upgrade: It also restores the linked ally Pokémon’s HP when it deals damage to opposing Pokémon.|
Ability 2 – Astonish
The ability deals damage to the opposing Pokémon in the designated area of effect, leaving them unable to act for a short time.
Ability choices at level 4
Ability 2 evolves into one of the two abilities at level 4.
|Phantom Force||Shadow Ball|
|Hoopa creates a ring under itself and warps to a designated Pokémon’s location, dealing damage to nearby opposing Pokémon at that location and shoving them. |
Hoopa shoots two sinister flames that deal damage to any opposing Pokémon they hit and decrease their movement speed for a short time. This move can be used for a second time within a set amount of time. If used a second time, Hoopa can return to the initial location where it warped from.
When using this move, if there is a nearby ally that is linked by Trick, that ally can also warp to the initial ring’s location. The ally Pokémon that warps in this way will recover some HP.
|Has the player unleash a shadowy blob in front of itself, dealing damage to opposing Pokémon it hits and decreasing their movement speed and Sp. Def for a short time. |
If the player then hits the same opposing Pokémon with a move or boosted attack within a set amount of time, it deals additional damage to the opposing Pokémon and leaves them unable to act for a short time. When using this move, if there is a nearby ally Pokémon linked by Trick, this move will also unleash a shadowy blob at the same target from that ally’s location.
|Upgrade: It makes the player invincible for a short time when this move is used||Upgrade: The shadowy blob will now explode before it disappears. Opposing Pokémon hit by the explosion are affected as if they were hit by the shadowy blob itself.|
Unite Move – Rings Unbound
The skill transforms the user into Hoopa Unbound for a short time (15 seconds), increasing the player’s max HP and creating a ring at the designated location. Each ally Pokémon can warp to the ring’s location once only. As Hoopa Unbound, the player cannot score goals or activate its ability.
As Hoopa Unbound, the player’s moves 1 and 2 change to the following:
|Ability 1 – Hyperspace Fury||Ability 2 – Psybeam|
|Has the player unleashed a barrage of attacks in the designated area with its many arms, dealing damage to opposing Pokémon in the area of effect and leaving them unable to act for a short time.||Has the player fire a peculiar ray in front of itself in a horizontal sweeping motion, dealing damage to opposing Pokémon it hits. The player becomes immune to hindrances while using this move.|

The disadvantage in using Hoopas’ Unite Move is that Hoopa is immobile while using this move. This means that Hoopa is open to being hit by enemies, Buddy Barrier compensates for this, by giving Cramoant a large shield, while the Unite move is used, meaning Hoopa becomes an unkillable, high DPS turret!

Pokémon Unite Hoopa Gameplay Tips
Our Pokémon Unite Hoopa guide includes the perfect game plan for the early and late game during the Unite battles.
In the early game, the main goal as Hoopa is to support the lane partner, as much as possible. Players make sure to constantly poke at the lane opponents, that way they are forced back, giving Hoopa and the lane partner a chance to steal the opposing teams’ Wild Pokémon.
During the early game, the partner in the lane is usually an all-rounder. Therefore, they must make sure to use astonish to either stun the opponents, so that the teammate can escape safely, or to give their teammate a chance to engage with the enemy team and get a kill.
By the time Drednaw and Rotom spawn, Hoopa should be around level 6-7 and have both abilities ready. Hoopa excels in teamfights for objectives, because of Hoopa’s first ability “Hyperspace Hole”, allowing Hoopa and allies to move between goal zones in an instant. Players must try to use Hyperspace Hole to gather the team for objectives, as quickly as possible. It is best to secure Drednaw with the team first, players must use Hyperspace Hole to teleport up to Rotom and secure it, as quickly as possible.
By the late game, players should have a level lead from making aggressive early-game plays and XP from Drednaw. Like all other characters, securing Zapdos with the team is a necessity.
Once Zapdos spawns, Hoopa should attempt to use their UNITE move, and do as much damage, as possible while in Unbound form. If using Hyperspace Hole, they must make sure to place it, during a teamfight, so that teammates can heal up when in a pinch.
Positioning of Hoopa
Because Hoopa is a supporter, Hoopa is primarily played in the bottom lane with an all-rounder. However, Hoopa can also be played in the top lane as a supporter. When using Hoopa in the top lane, Hyperspace Hole is a great move option, as it allows Hoopa and the lane partner to head to the bottom path in an instant, that way the entire team can go to Drednaw with ease. Being a support Pokémon, Hoopa should try to stay behind their teammates and protect them, as much damage as possible.
Hoopa with other Pokémon
Best synergies with Hoopa
Our Pokémon Unite Hoopa guide also focuses upon the relationship between Hoopa and other Pokémon.
|Garchomp||While Garchomp is powerful in one-on-one fights, especially elongated ones, Garchomp lacks movement speed. Trick provides Garchomp with a shield, movement speed, and extra damage, which all synergizes extremely well with Garchomps’ playstyle. Garchomp is also one of the fastest characters to secure objectives in the game and by using Hyperspace Hole, Garchomp is able to teleport to objectives in an instant and take them with ease.|
|Mamoswine||Mamoswine is an excellent character in teamfights, but extremely slow, meaning Mamoswine struggles to be present in teamfights. Hyperspace Hole fixes this issue, by bringing Mamoswine straight to teamfights.|
|Snorlax||Snorlax synergizes well with Hoopa for the same reason as Mamoswine. Snorlax is an excellent character in teamfights, but extremely slow. This means Mamoswine struggles to be present in teamfights. Hyperspace Hole fixes this issue by bringing Snorlax straight to teamfights.|

Pokémon Unite Hoopa: Tips, tricks and strategies
This guide will also discuss some tips and tricks for playing Hoopa in Pokémon Unite.
- Hoopa requires an extremely coordinated team, as Hyperspace Hole requires the team to know when to use the teleport and when not to. When playing Hoopa, players should also be cautious, as mistiming the Hyperspace Hole can accidentally send teammates to a different area, at an unwanted time. Hoopa needs to always be on the lookout for surprise attacks, while also using their high mobility to make lots of early game plays, around the map. Map awareness is crucial when playing Hoopa. Because of this, it is advised that Hoopa is not played, when trying to rank up without premade teammates.
- When playing Hoopa, communication with the team is essential. It may be better to play Hoopa with a premade team of players that are confident in playing with Hoopa, as playing around Hoopa can be difficult. Communication with the rest of the team can be done either through the quick or voice chat
- Hoopa has an extremely high skill cap, as the Hyperspace Hole needs to be timed and placed perfectly, in order for it to get the maximum value for the team.
- When using Trick, players must make sure to always use Trick before the other ability, that way the binded ally will benefit from the ability used, maximising the amount of advantage it provides.
- Players must save the Unite Move for Zapdos. This is an easily overlooked aspect of the game that can change the entire outcome of the game, by saving the Unite Move for Zapdos, it ensures that they can secure the objective and win the game. Players must try to move around the opposing team during the Zapdos fight and use the combo of the abilities and the UNITE move to wipe out the enemy team.
- One must make sure to check the map before Zapdos spawns. They must look around in the bushes surrounding Zapdos to ensure there are no sneaky enemies waiting to steal it.
Hoopa is a fun and unique character with a unique move set, that has never been seen in a MOBA game before. With an extremely high skill cap, how Hoopa is played varies, depending on the players’ playstyle. Hoopa will presumably be played frequently in competitive play, as this character’s game-changing moveset will have a huge impact on shaping the meta for Pokémon UNITE in the future.
If players would like to play a character with entire map control, an incredibly high skill cap, and an intriguing new playstyle, then Hoopa may be of interest. We hope this guide gives some more insight into the ways to play this new fun and loopy Pokémon!
