Mia San Mia!

The addition of Iconic Moments players has no doubt increased the appeal of eFootball to players around the globe. Since the Datapack 2.0 update, users can relive match-winning performances from many players of the game in coin packs where several clubs have their icons up for grab. The IMs have increased to such an extent that now there are more IMs in the game compared to Legends. Several users have a great array of Iconic Moment players over a set of different clubs. However, some mainly focus on collecting Iconics from their favorite clubs. With legends being easily churned out in the game slowly, Iconic Moments players can add to the real glam of your squad. In this article, we shall review the Bayern Munich Iconic Moments in PES 2021.

All the reviews are made only after trying them out in both offline & online mode. Whenever any new Bayern Munich Iconic Moments are released, this review will be updated with the new set of players. We have previously reviewed the Iconic Moments players of the following clubs from PES 2020 and also the below clubs from PES 2021, so feel free to check those reviews out.

PES 2021: Bayern Munich Iconic Moments

We currently have eight Bayern Munich Iconic Moments released in PES 2021 this year. Whenever any new Bayern Munich Iconic Moments are released in PES 2021, this article will be updated with the new set of players.

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge

Playing Style: Goal Poacher

Looking back at the Iconic match

Bayern Munich faced Hamburger SV in the Matchday 8 of the Bundesliga on 27th September 1980. In front of around 78,000 football fans in the Olympic Stadium, German Icon Rummenigge opened the scoring in the 62nd minute after defenses of both teams were resistant to each other’s goal-scoring chances.

However, the lead didn’t last for long as Hamburger SV equalized in the 67th minute. The game was decided when Klaus scored the winning goal in the 86th minute. The season for Rummenigge was very memorable as he finished the season with 39 goals in 44 appearances, eventually winning the Ballon D’or for the year.

Player Analysis

Well, from where can we start. Undoubtedly one of the highest sought players in the game, Rummenigge has been the target for many players. The German striker already had his PES 2020 version in demand, and this version is an improvement, which makes him, even more, deadlier in-game.

Starting with the off-the-ball movements and runs, Rummenigge does it quite cleverly. For a Goal Poacher, he looks for quick runs behind the defense, and still, he drops below the first line of defense to involve in the buildup. Dribbling is not the sharpest, but his smooth Ball Control and Tight Possession are a plus for those who like dribbling.

Bayern Munich Rummenigge IM Stats

Finishing is his amazing trait, often known for his finishing from ridiculous angles. His finishing is boosted with Kicking Power and skills like Long Range Drive, Long Range Shooting, and Rising Shots. His curlers seem to be an improvement over his previous version. Rummenigge is good with both feet, sometimes from distance, he also gets his Outside Curler shots right. No complaints about Heading. Speed is not an issue, as he is very quick.

Physicality is not an issue, but he does get bullied by physical defenders sometimes. Passing is a letdown, but it is better than many strikers available. Don’t press with him much, as he runs out of gas quickly. Overall, he has his negatives, but it doesn’t change the fact that he is one of the best strikers available in PES.

Formation Discussion

Flexible at any formation, Rummenigge is the best fit at CF. Can work at any formation. If used at SS, he has enough pace to exploit the flanks, however, would be underuse of his abilities at the wings.

Giovane Elber

Playing Style: Goal Poacher

Looking back at the Iconic match

Bayern Munich faced Spanish giants Real Madrid in the Semi-Finals of the UEFA Champions League on 1st May 2001. In front of around 75,000 football fans in the Santiago Bernabeu, the first leg was filled with lots of action, particularly yellow cards. Among all the match events, Brazilian Striker Elber‘s only goal in the 55th minute was the highlight, in front of rival fans. A worthy Iconic Moment indeed.

Elber goes on to score once again in the second leg in front of home fans, and Bayern advances to the Finals, where they eventually end up being winners by beating Valencia on penalties.

Player Analysis

Elber is an interesting player. Most of the players don’t like to use this man, for good reasons being he’s not popular, and adding one more, his stats doesn’t impress many. But in a different case, Elber is a fantastic backup player and would come in handy in certain aspects of the game.

Bayern Munich Elber IM Stats

His previous version was a Fox In The Box player, so we could guess players don’t seem to like this playstyle much as this isn’t a direct poacher’s game. This year, we have a Poacher in our hands, and he does play that role well. His off-the-ball movements are good, makes direct runs to the box too. Not a dribbler, Elber still is a good player considering the ball aspects. His first touch sometimes looks off, but otherwise, he does fine. Inside the box, he is a deadly Finisher. He is very consistent in this regard, and this definitely came as a surprise.

He has no weak foot, which means he is reliable to finish with both feet. He is a good header of the ball, he finds spaces quickly and gets into position with ease. Passing is lackluster, which is a disappointment, even after having Low Lofted Pass skill doesn’t improve much. Speed is okay, not the fastest but that isn’t bad if you use him for the final kill. Physical Contact is a plus, doesn’t get bullied easily. Overall, a decent backup striker could be very effective in a creative team.

Formation Discussion

A 4-3-3 with him at the top is a decent setup, but he does end up being inconsistent as he isn’t good enough to carry games on his own. So best to pair him a 2 CF formation with a creative forward, feed him the balls to finish the balls in the box.

Lothar Matthäus

Playing Style: Orchestrator

Looking back at the Iconic match

In a goal fest of a match between Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen, Matthaus was one of the scorers in an entertaining match which ended 4-2 in the favour of the eventual league runners up of the league Bayern.

Matthaus Bayern Munich Iconic Moments
PES 2021 Bayern Munich Iconic Moments – Matthaus

Player Analysis

Matthaus is undoubtedly one of the best players for Bayern and has his name on the list of the best midfielders of all time. His legend version already is very popular being very balanced on both offensive and defensive aspects of the game. This IM version comes as an improvement for the same, but with a playstyle change.

Bayern Munich Matthaus IM Stats

An Orchestrator by playstyle, Mattahus can even play as an advanced attacking mid because he has the ability to do so. A decent dribble game with good ball control skills, he is not easy to dispossess having a great balance on the ball. On the offensive side, he is a good finisher coming with a First-TIme Shot skill and does have a good awareness of what’s happening around him. His Long Shots deserve a mention, his shots bomb with explosiveness thanks to his Kicking Power.

He is quick and agile, has a great passing game to his name. Freekicks are very accurate and do get himself involved in the attacking chances a lot. Defensively solid, his awareness to read interceptions and dictate the play is top class. His Heading is decent for a short player and his fighting spirit with the captaincy trait makes him a never quitting star of your team.

Formation Discussion

He is the best fit as a CMF in a double pivot. Pair him with a physical Box-to-Box mid for a strong mix of the offense and defense in your game. 4-2-1-3, 4-2-2-2 and 3-4-1-3 are some good recommendations.

Xabi Alonso

Playing Style: Orchestrator

Looking back at the Iconic match

Bayern Munich was selected to face Werder Bremen at home in the season opener on 26 August 2016. Bayern completely dominated Bremen and thrashed the visitors 6–0, making it the biggest win by a defending champion to start the season. Xabi Alonso opened the scoring in the 9th minute, followed by Lewandowski four minutes later.

Lewandowski then scored his second in the first minute of the second half, followed by goals from Philipp Lahm in the 66th minute and Ribéry in the 73rd. Lewandowski then completed his hat-trick in the 77th minute from the penalty spot.

Alonso Bayern Munich Iconic Moments
PES 2021 Bayern Munich Iconic Moments – Alonso

Player Analysis

Xabi Alonso is one of a kind player who wasn’t flashy or physical but was artistic with his game. The same goes for all his Iconic Cards, despite being a DMF, he isn’t a traditional defensive midfielder whom a player might expect to be doing your defensive duties.

Bayern Munich Xabi Alonso IM Stats

Calm and composed on the ball, Xabi’s biggest ability is to control the game. His passing is a massive plus to any team, he can spread out any defense with his amazing Low and Lofted Passes. He can start an attack and in an instant, the ball might be in the attacking third. He is also a good setpiece taker. Offensive attributes aren’t a positive, not an offensive mid nor can play like one.

Defensively, his awareness is pretty good but what makes him unusable for many PES players is his pace, which is slow. He finds it difficult to catch up to quick players, and this might give a second thought of using him as your defensive mastermind. Stamina is also a concern, so pressing with him seems difficult. Since the game demands pace and physicality, it is a sad story of class players not being suitable to play their magic on the field, and Xabi belongs to that category.

Formation Discussion

If you want the best out of Xabi Alonso, use him exclusively at the DMF position, in a double pivot as the player is not quick enough. He will be the best choice as a DMF in a 4-3-3 or 4-1-2-3, 5-3-2 formations, where you have enough men in the defense so that your DMF can focus on playing as an orchestrator.

Bixente Lizarazu

Playing Style: Offensive Full-back

Looking back at the Iconic match

Bayern faced Valencia at the biggest stage of European Football at the San Siro, Milan. In a tense game, Bayern won the Champions League by beating Valencia on penalties. Valencia converted a penalty and took the lead after just three minutes. Mehmet Scholl missed a spot-kick of his own shortly afterward.

Lizarazu Bayern Munich Iconic Moments
PES 2021 Bayern Munich Iconic Moments – Lizarazu

Bayern did not give up. They continued to push the Spaniards onto the defensive. The referee blew for the final’s third penalty five minutes after the break. This time, the captain took control. Stefan Effenberg buried it for 1-1 and FCB was back in the game.

However, neither team could find the goal again. Even extra-time failed to bring a decision, despite the golden goal rule. The game would end with a penalty shootout. Paulo Sergio and Patrik Andersson were unable to convert their penalties, but an impressive Oliver Kahn kept Bayern in the game with two saves to win the game for the Bavarians.

Player Analysis

The French International played nearly 250 games for the Bavarian club, and during his time, Bixente had his fair share of Iconic Moments. This card doesn’t impress many stats-wise, as there are many other good options better than him. But as the saying goes, “don’t judge until you try”.

Bayern Munich Lizarazu IM Stats

Bixente Lizarzu comes across as a hard-working yet lacking that final touch of magic kind of player when we look at the performances. On a scale of average to the poor when it comes to offensive quality, his playstyle itself is confusing to many as his performances don’t justify it. A good dribbler, with skills like Double Touch and Step On Skill control, come in handy in tight spaces. His passing game is good, crossing is point and accurate from his left foot.

He is quick enough at the flanks to catch up with opponents. He is average defensively, with the only defensive skill being Interception. However, he does enough to keep the attack off the hooks. His greatest plus is his Stamina, he can play the full 90 with ease. Overall, a player not of starter quality, but can serve your teams a flexible fullback position when needed.

Formation Discussion

He can fit in any formation as an LB. To be defensively secure, a 4-2-1-3, 4-3-3 would be great as he would receive support from the winger as well. As an LMF, he is a good fit in a defensive 3-4-1-2, 3-2-2-3.

Alphonso Davies

Playing Style: Offensive Full-back

Looking back at the Iconic match

Bayern Munich faced a then struggling Chelsea side at the Stamford Bridge, London in the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League for the 2019-20 season. Bayern beat Chelsea 3-0, where Serge Gnabry continued his remarkable scoring streak in London before Robert Lewandowski fired a late third. Davies had the game of his life against Chelsea, running rampant on the wing, as well as assisting a goal.

Player Analysis

One of the youngest players and also among the few active players in the game to get an Iconic Moment card, Davies surely has made a mark in the footballing universe. A pacy, smart, and attacking full-back, Davies is surely the best option for an Offensive Fullback if players are looking for one.

Bayern Munich Davies IM Stats

Davies is rapid, very quick, and has a deadly burst of pace in tight space which is difficult to catch up to. Offensively well balanced, Davies’ best attribute after his Speed is Dribbling. he comes with amazing dribbling skills like Double Touch, Flip Flap, Cross Over Turn, and Cut Behind & Turn. Passing-wise, Low Pass is good but Lofted passing sometimes ends up being inaccurate.

Lack of defensive skills is a downside of the player, but he is not bad defensively. Even if he is tailor-made for offensive football, which does resemble his playstyle in real life, he does put in a decent effort in defense. However, his stamina and Fighting Spirit trait makes him perform at the highest level, which serves as an advantage.

Formation Discussion

Davies can play as both LB and LMF. Formations like 4-2-1-3, 4-3-3, 4-2-2-2 as a LB and 3-4-1-2, 3-2-2-3 as a LMF are some good fits.

Franz Beckenbauer

Playing Style: Build Up

Looking back at the Iconic match

Bayern Munich faced Rot-Weiß Essen in the Matchday 30 of the Bundesliga on 8th May 1976. In a tense game, Beckenbauer scored the final goal of the game in a thrilling 3-3 draw, with Gerd Muller scoring the first two goals for the Bayern side where Burgsmüller with two, Hrubesch being the scorers. All 6 goals came in the second half.

Beckenbauer Bayern Munich Iconic Moments
PES 2021 Bayern Munich Iconic Moments – Beckenbauer

Player Analysis

Der Kaiser Beckenbauer popularly played the sweeper role in football. In the game, he is available as a CB, but that doesn’t stop him from being one of the best Utility Players the game has introduced. His stats are his biggest highlight, has very few weaknesses in his overall game to make a note of. His previous IM version was brilliant, and this time, all we can make note of is the upgrades.

Bayern Munich Beckenbauer IM Stats

Beckenbauer has the ability to perform great at both offensive and defensive-oriented roles and also manages a mix of both with a great performance. He has absolutely amazing performances at a defensive role, can control a game, has the great ball-playing ability, neat defensive duties, and good offensive contributions.

On the ball, Beckenbauer is a consistent performer, calm on the ball with good ball control abilities. His passing is amazing, especially his Weighted Passing and Through Passing is one of the best in the game. His long shots are very powerful, thanks to his boosted Kicking Power. Can take good setpieces too.

Defensive awareness is top class, comes with his good speed stats, he makes it easy to defend. This version doesn’t fail to win physical duels compared to previous versions. Heading sometimes seems off, but it is manageable. With 8 forms, you can expect Der Kaiser to perform at the highest level.

Formation Discussion

Can fit as a DMF, AMF, CB, RB, CMF, which makes him a complete Utility player. Take any formation as your wish, and use him at the mentioned positions.

Oliver Kahn

Playing Style: Defensive Goalkeeper

Looking back at the Iconic match

Same match as the Lizarzu game, UEFA Champions League, Bayern Munich vs Valencia.

Kahn Bayern Munich Iconic Moments
PES 2021 Bayern Munich Iconic Moments – Kahn

Player Analysis

The IM card of PES 2020 of the German Goalkeeper was already one of the best Goalkeeper cards in PES. This version too is a good shout for a top-tier position among the goalkeepers released this year.

Bayern Munich Kahn IM Stats

Having 99 in every Goalkeeping stat without boost, Kahn definitely is a worthy card just by stats. Performance-wise too, he doesn’t disappoint. He saves the toughest of the inside-the-box shots and is a wonderful player to have in your squad if you are a lover of All-Out Defense managers.

His clearances are not the best, and passing under pressure is decent. Rushing him out is a bad idea for his playstyle, so for those who love their keeper do so, better practice watching. But what makes him special is his reach to the goal, the best in the game, and looks like it is not going to be matched anytime soon.

Formation Discussion

He performs better under managers who play with the All-out defense tactic as it works best with his playstyle, which doesn’t involve the rushing-out from the box situations.
