Wild Rift Caitlyn Guide: Best Build, Runes and Gameplay Tips

League of Legends: Wild Rift’s Caitlyn, the Sheriff of Piltover, is its city´s finest peacekeeper and also Piltover’s best shot at ridding the city of its elusive criminal elements. She is often paired with Vi, acting as a cool counterpoint to her partner’s more impetuous nature. Even though she carries a one-of-a-kind hextech rifle, Caitlyn’s most powerful weapon is her superior intellect, allowing her to lay elaborate traps for any lawbreakers foolish enough to operate in the City of Progress. In this guide, we will take a closer look at the best runes, spells, and builds, including tips and tricks to swing your way to victory with Caitlyn in League of Legends: Wild Rift.

On the Rift of Wild Rift Caitlyn is categorized as a marksman champion with a moderate difficulty level, played in the Dragon lane. Caitlyn is specialized in attacking from far away since she has the highest range of all the marksman in the early game. As a marksman, Caitlyn is a very good safe pick into a lot of team compositions since she can peel for herself with her range while keeping herself safe with her traps. That makes her a solid A-tier champion.

Ability Analysis

Caitlyn is a champion with the common five skill sets of one passive and four actives. In this Caitlyn guide, we are going to see how her abilities in LoL Wild Rift work and when you should use which skill to be in the best shape in the current rank season.

Passive – Headshot

Every 6 attacks fire a Headshot, dealing 29 bonus physical damage (50% AD + 125% Crit). Trapped or netted enemies trigger a Headshot that has double range. Attacking from the bush builds Headshot twice as fast.

Skill 1 – Piltover Peacemaker

Fires a narrow piercing bullet that deals 123 physical damage (50% AD + 125% Crit). Hitting an enemy expands the bullet, but reduces subsequent damage by 40%. Always deals full damage to trapped or netted enemies.

Skill 2 – Yordle Snap Trap

Sets a trap that enemy champions can spring, immobilizing them for 1.5 seconds and Revealing them for a short duration. Traps last for 30 seconds and 2 can be active at once.

Skill 3 – 90 Caliber Net

Launches a net, knocking Caitlyn backward. The net deals 70 magic damage (+ 80% AP) and slows by 50% for 1.5 seconds.

Skill 4 – Ace in the Hole

Lines up the perfect shot, Revealing an enemy champion for 1.5 seconds before dealing physical damage equal to 300 (+ 200%AD) plus 20% of their missing Health. Enemy champions can intercept the bullet before it hits their ally.

Best Runes Setup and Spells for Caitlyn in Wild Rift

Runes Setup

Wild Rift Caitlyn Guide
  • Conqueror: Conqueror is the core rune for all marksmen since it stacks more damage the more you attack a champion. Since the ADC is the DPS of the team you want to consistently attack the enemies hence why this rune makes sense to use.
  • Gathering Storm: This rune helps Caitlyn to scale into the mid/late game well which is normally the best plan for playing ADC. Caitlyn only gets stronger the longer the game lasts so boosting that up is always a good decision.
  • Adaptive Carapace: You can adapt this rune place based on the enemy team composition. If you are facing assassin/all-in heavy types of team comp Bone Plating is much more suited. Adaptive Carapace helps you with sustainability.
  • Sweet Tooth: Sweet Tooth is an early game focused rune which helps out a lot during the laning phase. Since while you want to take the honeyfruit during laning phase in the first place getting additional health from it is beneficial.

Battle Spells

  • Flash: As an ADC Caitlyn is very squishy so she needs Flash to either re-position herself or get out of dangerous situations.
  • Heal or Shield: The choice depends on what your support will take as summoner spells. Either way both spells are good in keeping Caitlyn alive as long as possible. Normally it is helpful to take shield against assassins and heal against tankier team compositions.

League of Legends: Wild Rift Caitlyn Gameplay Tips

As we figured out Caitlyn is a Marksman best suited to being played in the Dragon lane. Always remember that the Wild Rift’s Map is a mirror so make sure you understand the map side before starting to lane. According to her gameplay, we can break it down into three phases. Our League of Legends: Wild Rift Caitlyn guide includes the perfect game plan for the early, mid, and late game.

Early Game

You start the game by analyzing your opponent’s champions and taking you and your support into consideration. Normally Caitlyn is a lane bully since she has high range basic attacks and abilities. That means you can easily poke your enemy bot lane while keeping a safe distance.

Nevertheless poke is strong against all-in team compositions but is rather weak against sustain type of team comps. While laning, take advantage of Caitlyn´s passive which giver her bonus damage on the 6th auto-attack. This refills faster if you attack from a bush so keep that in mind.

Mid Game

Before the first dragon tries to poke out the enemy bot lane as much as possible so you can keep them out from the potential first-team fight. Remember to utilize Caitlyn´s high range which will keep you alive and safe during team fights. Try to put out traps at high-priority places to zone out the enemy team or to get vision. Keep your third ability up as long as possible to use it later if the enemies get too close to you. Lastly, remember your ultimate range and the bonus damage if it is targeted on low-health enemies. You can easily secure otherwise difficult kills with it.

Late Game

As every other marksman, the Late game is the strongest phase for Caitlyn. At this point, you have all your items acquired and can dish out a high amount of damage. Nevertheless, you are still very squishy so focus on your positioning since the respawn time at this point is very high. The highest amount of Caitlyn´s damage comes from her combo attacks. You might want to try specific skill combos like this to unleash her full potential.

Final Thoughts

Caitlyn is definitely a beginner-friendly marksman champion with whom you can learn how to play as a marksman properly. This comes from her rather an easy kit and her high range giving her a lot of safety. On her own, she has a stun, a slowing ability, and an escaping tool which makes her a strong ADC pick. To unlock her full potential though you have to correctly use her combos to maximize her full damage output. Overall it is always nice to see some fresh air in the bot lane and another champion to choose from.
