Wild Rift Alistar Guide: Best Build, Runes and Gameplay Tips

Mess with the Bull and you'll get the horns!

Support champions are a core part of any MOBA. In all MOBAs, supports are mainly classified into two categories. They are either enchanters (healers, mages, etc) or tanks. Enchanters prefer to stay in the backline and provide their team with utility, crowd control, and healing. Tanks are the engaging tools of the team. In League of Legends Wild Rift, Alistar works as the perfect tank support. In this Wild Rift guide, we will take a look at the best emblem, spell, build, including tips and tricks to dominate every game with Alistar

Alistar can act as an initiator for the team, as well as a disruptive force that can send enemies flying. He provides a lot of crowd control and is one of the best supports in the game. Enjoy pounding enemies into the ground, all the while shrugging off damage that comes your way!

So, players must make sure to check these champion guides as well. For now, let’s focus on this guide of Alistar in Wild Rift.

Skill Analysis

Alistar is a tank, with a whole lot of crowd control abilities. Most of his abilities are also AoE (Area of Effect) so they can affect more than one enemy at once. He can knock up multiple enemies, stun them as he pleases, and he can reduce damage by so much that he becomes almost unkillable at times. In this Alistar guide, we are going to see how her abilities in LoL Wild Rift work and when you should use which skill to be in the best shape in the current ranked season.

Passive – Triumphant Roar

Alistar charges his roar by stunning or displacing enemy champions or when nearby enemies die. When fully charged he heals himself all nearby allied champions. Here, when Alistar takes damage, he heals himself for 20, and nearby allied champions for 40. Knocking up or stunning champions with Alistar’s abilities will reduce the cooldown by 8 seconds.

This gives Alistar players the incentive to play a bit more aggressively and land more abilities in the laning phase. The healing from the passive ensures that both Alistar and his allies are healthy and ready for a fight. If they are not ready to take on the enemy, the healing can help give them the safety bubble, protecting them from certain death.

Ability 1 – Pulverize

Alistar smashes the ground, dealing damage to nearby enemies and tossing them into the air. This ability deals 60 magic damage to enemies (60+50% scaling with ability power) and the duration of the knock-up is 1 second.

This ability has a very important synergy with his second ability, which we will get into soon. If timed correctly, Pulverize can knock up more than one enemy at once, taking full advantage of the large radius this ability has.

Ability 2 – Headbutt

Alistar rams a target with his head, dealing damage and knocking the target back. It may also target turrets to deal bonus damage. Headbutt deals 50 magic damage (50+60% scaling with Ability Power) to enemies and sends them flying backward.

This has a very, very important synergy with Pulverize, Alistar’s first ability. This combo is the core combo to play Alistar to his full potential. Let us see what the combo is and how to perform it. The combo basically involves using Alistar’s first and second ability together for maximum crowd control:

  1. Players must run towards an enemy, and press the Headbutt ability.
  2. Just before players hit the desired target with the headbutt, they must press the first ability, Pulverize.
  3. Timing this correctly will ensure that they dash to the enemies with headbutt, and instead of knocking them back, Alistar knocks them up in place. Players can practice this combo on Practice Mode in Wild Rift.

Using this, players can headbutt and knock up entire teams during teamfights. This makes sure that the teammates can deal damage while they keep applying crowd control.

Ability 3 – Trample

Alistar tramples nearby enemy units, ignoring unit collision and gaining stacks if he damages an enemy champion. At full-stack, Alistar’s next basic attack against an enemy champion deals additional magic damage and stuns them.

Trample deals 100 magic damage (100+40% scaling with Ability Power) to nearby enemies over 5 seconds. If Trample damages an enemy champion 5 times, Alistar’s next attack within 5 seconds is empowered to deal an additional 40 magic damage and stuns them for 1 second.

Ultimate – Unbreakable Will

Alistar lets out a wild roar, removing all crowd control effects on himself for a period of time, reducing incoming physical and magical damage for the duration. This is, of course, Alistar’s most important ability in teamfights.

Players can use it to engage on the enemy, wait for them to use their crowd control on Alistar, then use the ultimate to cleanse themselves and become insanely tanky for a fixed duration of 7 seconds. Unbreakable Will makes Alistar almost unkillable. This, in turn, allows him to soak up damage, while their teammates deal damage to the enemy.

Skill Up Methods for Alistar

Alistar’s ability level up order is as follows:

  • Pulverize (1st Ability): Level 1, 4, 6, 7.
  • Headbutt (2nd Ability): Level 2, 8, 10, 11.
  • Trample (3rd Ability): Level 3, 12, 14, 15.
  • Unbreakable Will (Ultimate Ability): Level 5, 9, 13.

Best Rune Setup and Spells For Alistar in Wild Rift

Rune Setups

Aftershock

Alistar’s Pulverize, Headbutt, and Trample abilities can immobilize enemies. This triggers Aftershock effects, granting Alistar more resistance. Further, this rune deals magic damage to enemies around him, making this the best Keystone rune for him.

Weakness

Weakness makes enemies take more damage when their movement is obstructed in any way. All three primary abilities of Alistar focus exactly on it. When Alistar immobilizes an enemy, Weakness makes them take more damage, thus, helping to get takedowns faster and get his team ahead.

Loyalty

Alistar is a support champion. He primarily plays in the duo lane, along with a lane partner, or laner. Loyalty grants Bonus Armor (AR) and Magic Resistance (MR) to him and his closest ally. This helps him and his team survive for longer in the lane and in teamfights.

Pack Hunter

Alistar always wants to be close to a teammate, in order to, help them out, in case of an attack. Pack Hunter grants bonus Movement Speed (MS) to him where he has allies nearby. For every unique ally, he participates in a takedown with, both gain an amount of 50 gold. Since gold income is a bit slower to come by for the support. This rune helps them close the gap.

Summoner Spells

Flash

Flash is the best spell on Alistar since it pairs up well with his abilities. Flash+Pulverize is one of the classic combos if Headbutt is on cooldown. It can also be used to flash behind enemies and Headbutt them into his allies. This almost always guarantees in the enemy using their Flash spell or any other Summoner spell they have, making them weaker for the time being.

Ignite/Exhaust

Ignite can be used to reduce enemy healing when Alistar jumps on them. It can also be used when an enemy is low, within killing range and trying to escape, thus securing the kill. Exhaust, on the other hand, can be used when the laning matchup for Alistar is tough.

In case enemies can easily dive Alistar and his ally, Exhaust can be used to slow and reduce their damage when they dive. This helps to survive in both the laning phase and in teamfights. Always make sure to target the enemy that can deal the most damage, and then focus on them and kill them.

League of Legends: Wild Rift Alistar Gameplay Tips

As we have discussed before, Alistar is a support champion and a tank. He excels at impairing enemy movement and locking them down in place. He wants to get into the enemies’ faces and enable his allies to unleash massive damage. Therefore, one must make sure that they understand the map side, before starting to lane. Hence, his playstyle is different from the peel supports and mage supports. Our Wild Rift Alistar guide includes the perfect game plan for the early, mid, and late game.

Early Game

At level 1, Alistar cannot do much, since he doesn’t have his Headbutt + Pulverize combo. Starting from level 2, however, he can start playing a bit more aggressively. Using the above-mentioned combo, players can engage the enemy and force them to use their Summoner Spells or be killed.

This is a win-win situation because if the enemy fights again before their spells are off-cooldown, Alistar’s team has an advantage.

Mid Game

Mid-game and Late-game is when Alistar shines the most for his team. In the dragon and herald fights, he can set up an ambush and get enemies killed, and then help his team with objectives. His Headbutt can also help to take down turrets, making it easier for his team to control the map. Alistar should always be in either the frontline or near his team’s carry. This is because he can start a fight in the frontline, and if he’s near his carry, he can make sure no enemy gets near them.

Late Game

In the late game, Alistar is one of the tankiest champions in the game. He can soak massive amounts of damage, and protect his allies even better, because of all the resistance he gains and offers to his team. Perfectly-performed combos can destroy enemies in seconds, while misplays can dearly cost his team. During this phase, it is advised to be careful about who can Alistar engage on.

Extremely mobile champions can easily get away and other tanky champions can soak his damage and CC, enabling the enemy team to make him the primary target. Attacking an position, the squishy enemy is recommended, as they cannot easily escape. This allows the team to follow up and kill them, putting them out of the game for a solid 45 to 50 seconds.

Now, let’s look at some matchups for the tanky Minotaur.

Final Thoughts

Very fun support to play, Alistar is very versatile and is one of the best tanks in the game. His CC-heavy abilities and his CC-cleansing ultimate are really very useful, throughout the match. He is an all-around great champion and will be ranked as A+ or S tier in the support role. We hope this guide helps you to get better at, and have fun playing Alistar.
