Mobile Legends Joy Guide: Best Emblem, Build and Gameplay Tips

Time to drop the beat of the flash!

Joy is a Chase/Damage type melee Assassin with a high difficulty level in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, who is also known as the “Child of Miracle” in an ancient Leonian prophecy. She was born and raised in Lumima City. Joy has a good set of area-of-effect, buff, speed, and blink skills, which make her a perfect assassin. We have previously made a detailed hero analysis of Joy as she made his appearance on the MLBB advanced server. In this Mobile Legends guide, we will take a look at the best emblem, spells, and builds, including tips and tricks to dominate every game with Joy.

For the very first time, developers put so much optimism in this hero, and all of her skills deal mainly magic damage to enemies, so she can be used as a brutal enemy slayer on the battlefield. Not only that but during skill casting there is a beat sync mechanism that will give you a feel-good vibe while playing Joy.

We have previously discussed how to master playing with other Mobile Legends heroes like MiyaLing, WanwanPharsaCarmillaSilvanna, HayabusaAtlasLuo YiYu Zhong, Aurora, Khaleed, Freya, Khufra, X.Borg, Lesley, Tigreal, Hylos, Valir, Cecilion, Lylia, Uranus, Barats, Odette, Angela, Vale, Rafaela, Hanzo, Esmeralda, Brody, Lapu-Lapu, Nana, Benedetta, Hilda, Mathilda, Selena, Jawhead, Chou, Paquito, Thamuz, Lunox, Yi Sun-Shin, Yve, Gatotkaca, Karrie, Ruby, Beatrix, Gloo, Argus, Baxia, Granger, Phoveus, Hanabi, Alpha, Harley, Karina, Eudora, Natan, Dyrroth, Balmond, Aulus, Guinevere, Sun, Belerick, Floryn, Aamon, Valentina, Kagura, Saber, Leomord, Bruno Akai, Bane, Edith, Martis, Alucard, Gusion, Chang’e, Yin, Clint, Alice, Grock, Kadita, Popol and Kupa, Zilong, Minotaur, Helcurt, Cyclops, Lancelot, Kaja, Claude, Lolita, Melissa, Layla, Moskov, Irithel, Kimmy, Harith, Estes, Roger, Xavier, Gord, Franco, Minsitthar, Terizla, Masha, Johnson, Zhask, Fanny, Aldous, Diggie, Julian, Faramis, Vexana, Natalia, and Fredrinn. So make sure to check these hero guides as well. For now, let’s focus on Joy.

Skill Analysis

Joy has four active skills and a passive skill including one special ultimate skill like most heroes in the game. In this Mobile Legends guide, we will also talk about the skills to use in certain scenarios as well as skill combos to be able to play Joy to her maximum potential.

Passive – Humph, Joy’s Angry (Buff)

passive-skill-joy

Joy gets 100% movement speed and a 300 (+100% magic power) shield for 4 seconds every time she hits a non-minion unit with her skill. The best part is that she can do it again in four seconds against the same enemy. Her basic attack has an 80 (+30% total physical attack) (80% total magical power) rating.

Skill 1 – Look, Leonin Crystal! (Summon)

CD – 4.0 seconds

Her skill summons a Leonin Crystal in a designated location near enemies while dealing 200 (+40% total magic power)/220/240/260/280/300 magic power and slowing them down by 30% for 1 second. Side by side, you can also control the crystal’s distance.

CD – 8/7.6/7.2/6.8/6.4/6 seconds

Skill 3 allows her to dash while dealing 120 (+55% total magic power)/138/156/174/192/210 magic damage to her pathway. When the dash skill hits the crystal or enemy in her path, you can use skill 3 again immediately (aka Beat Time). The maximum number of dashes before it cools down is five.

After each of her successful dashes, she will gain her main crowd control immunity for 1 second. It worked on both minion and non-minion units, so if you miss the dash even once, it will cool down. Now here comes the main part (also known as the previously mentioned Beat Sync) of the skill that makes Joy unique.

Skill 3 – Ha, Electrifying Beats! (AoE, Speed Up)

CD – 28.0/25.0/22.0 seconds

You cannot cast it directly on enemies; in order to do that, you have to complete 5 dashes, and then it will be unlocked. Following the casting of the ultimate, it will remove all CC effects while also providing an additional 30% movement speed and slow immunity for the next four seconds.

Enemies near Joy will receive 180 (+55% total magic power)/225/270 magic damage 8 times while this is active, but you cannot do a basic attack in this phase. But also remember, if one enemy is hit multiple times with this ultimate skill, the damage is reduced by 20%, but a perfectly synced beat of skill 3 will increase skill 4’s damage by 30% and life steal by 40%.

Skill-up method for Joy

Unlock skill 3 first and upgrade it to the max level. Upgrade skill 2 accordingly, and ultimate whenever available.

Best Emblem set and Spells for Joy in Mobile Legends

Emblem Setup

Use the Custom Mage Emblem set on Joy to deal more damage. Depending on the enemy lineup, spend your first set on Mastery or Agility. Mastery will provide you with CDR (cooldown reduction), and Agility will provide you with +6% movement speed on the battlefield; use 3 points as per the requirement.

After that, spend 3 points on Observation for +6% magic penetration. Lastly, choose Magic Worship to deal extra magic damage to enemies:

  • Mastery (+3)
  • Observation (+3)
  • Magic Worship (+1)

Battle Spells

You can use various types of spells on Joy. She has an inbuilt flicker/dash skill, so try to take Vengeance, which reduces damage by 35% while dealing 35% magic damage to enemies. Or else you can use Execute to finish low-HP enemies directly. When playing as a jungler, always take Flame Retribution to control the map properly.

Best Builds for Joy in Mobile Legends

One can try many builds on Joy. All one needs to do is to just follow the enemy’s pick and then decide the role on the battlefield. We have set out the following template in our guide to try out with Joy on the Mobile Legends battlefield. Joy is a magic damage-type hero with high mobility, so we will focus on magic damage to get the best out of her. At first, build Aracane Boots or Warrior Boots as per the enemy lineup.

Then focus on the Genius Wand because it will provide +10 magic penetration and it’s unique passive will help you reduce the enemy’s magic defense, which will help you deal more damage at a later phase. After that, build the second core item, Concentrated Energy, which will help Joy provide a +25% magic lifesteal and its unique passive regenerate +10% max HP on killing a hero.

This item will perfectly blend with your ultimate. In the case of the third item, you have the option of crafting Holy Crystal, which improves your emblem skill Mystery and deals 21-35% more magic damage (scales with level), or Calamity Reaper, which improves your basic attack (12% magic damage) and 10% faster movement speed after casting a skill. But third-item building totally depends on the situation. After completing three offensive builds, it’s time to focus on some defense to sustain on the battlefield.

Build Oracle as your fourth item to gain a thick shield against magical defense and a 30% increase in HP regeneration. Else, you can build Dominance Ice (+10% CDR, reduces shield and HP regen effects by 50% against nearby enemies) if there are physical-type heroes in the enemy lineup. Lastly, wrap up Joy with Immortality to gain an extra life and +20 physical defense with +800 HP.

Building a Winter Truncheon is sometimes useful in place of Immortality. It will make Joy immune to all damage and CC (crowd control) effects. If your team is tanky and you are playing as the main damage dealer or jungler, you can omit one defense item and build Divine Glaive to deal more magic penetration (+35%).

Mobile Legends Joy Gameplay Tips

Joy is a very flexible hero. She can handle any lane. If you want to play as a jungler, do not forget to select the retribution spell. Joy can also hold a side lane (primarily the exp lane due to melee range) thanks to her CC ability and shield. But whatever lane you want to play, first analyze the composition of the enemy team and then decide.

However, a player must need a good understanding of the map to bring the best out of any hero. According to her gameplay, we can break it down into three phases. Our Mobile Legends Joy guide includes the perfect game plan for the early, mid, and late game.

Early Game

At first, buy a preliminary boot and head towards exp lane if you are playing as a side laner; Else, bless yourself with ice retribution and head towards the blue buff. Unlock the second skill first and dash towards the creep, then try to sync the beat and finish the buff as fast as you can, then head towards the vision plant with the help of your tank.

In this scenario, maybe a gank will happen by the enemy, but do not extend the fight if your mage or tank is not there. If the gank was successful, head towards the enemy’s red buff; if not, turn back and focus on jungler rotation.

If you are an experienced laner, take advantage of this and poke your opponent, but do not prolong the fight because making the enemy recall to the base is the same as killing them. All you have to do is keep your gold advantage and remember to prioritize your first core item.

Mid Game

In this phase, joy shines the most. Do not just babysit one lane. Joy is known for her movement and area damage, so utilize it fully. Try to poke enemies and lark them towards your team to achieve easy kills, or else, in a 1v1 fight, hide in the bush, drop the crystal in the perfect position, and then start dashing. But do not forget to sync the beat correctly, because you need damage to finish the enemy, and that can only be generated by a perfect beat as:

Skill 2 + Skill 3 (5 times) + Basic Attack + Skill 4

Remember to rotate in the turtle lane and target vulnerable heroes to clear the backline. Make sure to complete your Two core items before extending/chasing an enemy (We will rather suggest you do not chase unnecessary enemies if the beat is broken; you will end up killing yourself).

Late Game

She is now fully prepared to wreak havoc on her adversaries. Just lure the enemies in or take advantage of your opponent’s tank to activate your ultimate. After the activation, beat them up with your beat. If you are getting stunned by your opponent, do not panic in that situation; just remember how to activate CC and then dash to escape death. Despite being a melee assassin, use your magic damage and blink skill to end your opponent’s range hero.

Joy on the battlefield

Follow the minimap before any gank. Use Lord, minions, and creeps to close the distance between you and the enemy before using ult. Then if you need to kill low-level enemies, don’t be afraid to turret dive; your shield and dash will definitely protect you. But do not miss your dash skill just because of auto-aim.

Build defense items if you are unable to compete with enemy heroes during this phase, but if you are dominating, only build one defense and the remaining four magic items to melt them down as discussed in the build section. Ultimate has a limited range, so be conscious while activating it.

Final Thoughts

The newly released Joy is no doubt a unique and fun-to-play type of hero. Not only that, she can easily dominate the battlefield with her skill set, but it is not that easy all the time because Joy’s main damage comes from her skill 3. To activate her ultimate, all five of her dashes must hit on point; otherwise, her beat will not be synchronized; with a broken beat, the damage will gradually decrease and it will be less effective than we desired.

So you cannot always see the screen to sync the beat because the duration is very short, and in the meantime, you have to follow enemies too. Now here comes the main part; don’t only see the beat; feel the beat in order to perform a perfect beat. It truly takes a lot of practice to stay on beat all the time, but once you master it, you will be unstoppable in the Land of Dawn.

During Ultimate, she can debuff all CC effects, so there is no particular counter for Joy, but you can use Minsitthar, Phoveus, or Silvanna to stop or harass her in the early game. An excellent pick for rank games, Joy is definitely a good pick for the current meta. These tips will surely help you to guide easy wins with Joy in Mobile Legends.
